Best stays in Savai'i, Samoa

Savai'i is the second-largest island in Polynesia and Samoa's quiet half — most travellers spend two or three nights here on a Samoa trip. Accommodation is mostly family-run: traditional beach fales along the coast, a handful of mid-range resorts, and a few eco-lodges set back from the road.

About this guide

From Salelologa wharf, the road circles the island clockwise. Heading north you reach Manase (the iconic beach-fale strip), Fagamalo (where Le Lagoto and Stevenson's anchor the mid-range tier), and Asau on the western edge. Continue south past Falealupo (cape-of-Samoa fales and the canopy walk) toward Satuiatua and Aganoa Black Sand Beach. Most properties offer airport-transfer or wharf-pickup; ferry ride from Mulifanua is about 90 minutes. The picks below include both beachfront fales and inland lodges.
