Tailua Beach Fale
About this property
Tailua Beach Fales is a small family-run operation in Manase, on Savai'i's north coast. Host Titi and her family have been welcoming travellers for years and earn consistent 5-star reviews for hospitality, home-cooked meals — generous portions, fresh fish a regular feature — and the protected lagoon directly in front of the fales, where green sea turtles are visible daily. The experience is a traditional Samoan beach fale: simple raised wooden structures right on the beach, shared bathrooms, ceiling fan and sea breeze in place of air conditioning, mosquito nets, comfortable mattresses, and a power outlet plus overhead light in each fale. Breakfast is included; Titi's dinners are part of the standard fale package on most stays. A village store and fresh-fruit stalls are within a short walk. Note that the Manase beach has eroded over recent years — the white-sand stretch is narrower than older photos suggest — but the lagoon remains the main attraction for snorkelling and turtle-watching, best at high tide.

Best stays in Samoa: where to sleep across Upolu and Savai'i
Samoa's accommodation runs the full spectrum — from US$30-a-night beach fales where you sleep open-air to the lagoon, through family-run boutique hotels in Apia, all the way to five-star resorts with overwater bungalows. Picking the right one depends entirely on what you're after: barefoot authenticity, restaurant variety, or a swim-up bar.
Best stays in Savai'i, Samoa
Savai'i is the second-largest island in Polynesia and Samoa's quiet half — most travellers spend two or three nights here on a Samoa trip. Accommodation is mostly family-run: traditional beach fales along the coast, a handful of mid-range resorts, and a few eco-lodges set back from the road.
Best beaches in Samoa
Samoa's beaches are the kind that consistently top "world's best" lists and somehow stay uncrowded. Most are on customary land — you'll pay a small village fee (typically WST 5–20) at the gate, which goes back into maintaining the site. Below: the ones our travellers come back about.

We stayed 2 nights in Tailua fales, had we know how much we'll like it, we'd definitely stay longer. Everything on Savaii island was beautiful and special but Titi's and her family's hospitality made our stay something that we'll remember forever. The owner, Titi, fed us we well, and was so kind, we'll never forget it. The beds in the fales were more comfortable than expected, the blidns were keeping us dry from the nightly rain and waking up and going into the ocean to swim with turtules was a treat. Travel shouldn't be about luxury but about these little special moments that stay with you forever.

We stayed here for four nights and just loved it. Turtles swimming right in front of our fale, fantastic food (Titi is an amazing cook). Also stalls of fresh fruit within walking distance as well as a store. I highly recommend this family run accommodation.

Stayed here 5 nights. Titi treats everyone like family. Great atmosphere. Rooms basic but breezy and have a plug and light. They have a little sitting area and table which is nice. Right on the beach. Food portions are enormous but on the whole great. We had fresh fish several times and crab. Samoan food and you can’t be that fussy. They let us use the fridge too which was great. Super clean bathrooms. Grass between huts and bathroom so you don’t get sand in bed which is a huge plus.

We had an absolutely lovely two night stay at Tailua. The beach is quite eroded, but still accessible and the lagoon is full of turtles. Meals were absolutely delicious and huge and we were made unbelievably welcome. Mattresses were also the most comfortable we slept on across multiple beach fales, and the mosquito nets were spacious and relatively new. There are a lot of accommodation options around Savai'i Lagoon, but we were very happy here!

Seeking accommodation we found this spot and although we arrived late we we're catered to a delicious feast for dinner and breakfast. Very reasonable pricing to stay. Understanding you are staying in a room without walls with mosquito nets was hot but lovely to let the breeze through. The woven wall mats to act as screens was an authentic use of materials and show of traditional knowledge in practice while also aesthetically pleasing. We enjoyed our stay.

What can I say? Lua was a delightful and unforgettable host. From start to finish she made sure our group of 8 had the best of times on her beautiful paradise Fales. The cooking was remarkable especially the fish on the last night. This experience will never be forgotten. Highly recommend.

Moderate cancellation: Full refund up to 5 days before check-in. 50% refund after that.
What's included in the rate?
Breakfast is included for all stays. Dinner is included on most fale-package rates — confirm with the host when booking. Lunch can be arranged on request or sourced from the village store and fruit stalls within a short walk.
What kind of fale should I expect?
Traditional raised wooden fales with mosquito nets, comfortable mattresses, ceiling fan, one power outlet and a light per fale. Bathrooms are shared, not en-suite. No air conditioning — sea breeze and the open structure handle the heat.
What's the beach like in 2026?

Yes. Manase observes Sunday as a rest day — most shops, restaurants and roadside stalls close, and there is no scheduled transport. The host continues to serve meals to in-house guests, but plan a quiet day.
