Best stays in Samoa: where to sleep across Upolu and Savai'i
Samoa's accommodation runs the full spectrum — from US$30-a-night beach fales where you sleep open-air to the lagoon, through family-run boutique hotels in Apia, all the way to five-star resorts with overwater bungalows. Picking the right one depends entirely on what you're after: barefoot authenticity, restaurant variety, or a swim-up bar.
Best stays in Savai'i, Samoa
Savai'i is the second-largest island in Polynesia and Samoa's quiet half — most travellers spend two or three nights here on a Samoa trip. Accommodation is mostly family-run: traditional beach fales along the coast, a handful of mid-range resorts, and a few eco-lodges set back from the road.
Best resorts in Samoa
If you want pool, multiple restaurants, an actual spa and a structured kids' programme, you want a resort — and Samoa's resort tier is concentrated on Upolu's south coast plus a handful on Savai'i. Below are the published full-service properties across both islands.
Best beaches in Samoa
Samoa's beaches are the kind that consistently top "world's best" lists and somehow stay uncrowded. Most are on customary land — you'll pay a small village fee (typically WST 5–20) at the gate, which goes back into maintaining the site. Below: the ones our travellers come back about.

Very uncomfortable to stay at Bay View. Facilities are so bad. The staff are so unprofessional and there was never a time I enjoyed dinner and breakfast. Due to my stay there, dinner was buffet and we only have three dish to choose from. Breakfast was never on time. Photos that on their website are old photos. I don't recommend this resort in the future unless they have come to their right senses to renovate their fales and services

Bathroom facilities wer so bad. Never showered there due to limitation of water. Struggled to find any staff members to advise them of the issue. Beds wer uncomfortable but due to all other hotels being fully booked we had no choice but to stay there.

Lovely fale overlooking the beach, staff very caring and looked after us well. Love how integrated this place is into the local community. Would be our #1 place to stay on future trips to the Big island.

Great place to stay, nice bungalo rooms with 2 beds out on its own deck. View of the lagoon awesome. Great place to host families as not far from the place to swim with turtles. We look forward in returning

Lovely people, great food, comfortable fales. Not within walking distance of the beach or a shop, though. The water in the bay was very shallow & mucky as the opening to the sea is a long way from the fales.
