Best stays in Samoa: where to sleep across Upolu and Savai'i
Samoa's accommodation runs the full spectrum — from family-run beach fales where you sleep open-air to the lagoon, through family-run boutique hotels in Apia, all the way to five-star resorts with overwater bungalows. Picking the right one depends entirely on what you're after: barefoot authenticity, restaurant variety, or a swim-up bar.
Best stays in Savai'i, Samoa
Savai'i is the second-largest island in Polynesia and Samoa's quiet half — most travellers spend two or three nights here on a Samoa trip. Accommodation is mostly family-run: traditional beach fales along the coast, a handful of mid-range resorts, and a few eco-lodges set back from the road.
Best resorts in Samoa
If you want pool, multiple restaurants, an actual spa and a structured kids' programme, you want a resort — and Samoa's resort tier is concentrated on Upolu's south coast plus a handful on Savai'i. Below are the published full-service properties across both islands.
Best beaches in Samoa
Samoa's beaches are the kind that consistently top "world's best" lists and somehow stay uncrowded. Most are on customary land — you'll pay a small village fee (typically WST 5–20) at the gate, which goes back into maintaining the site. Below: the ones our travellers come back about.

We’re from London & visited the waterfall for the day from Apia. Stopped here for lunch as we thought it was on the beach. (No sandy beach). We spent $200 tala on lunch for 2 of us and we were told we then had to pay another $20 tala each to access the non-sandy beach (which we then left after 10 minutes & found another beach club with sand) AND when we couldn’t finish lunch , it was $3 tala per take away box!!! Excuse me? This is the only place we have come across in Samoa that just wanted to charge for every single thing as the $200 tala we spent on lunch wasn’t enough?! Staff was extremely helpful, attentive and polite but I wouldn’t recommend as everywhere else in Samoa is so hospitable & a lot have sand at their beach.

We had an amazing time at Amoa Resort. My second time here. Room spotless, staff so beautiful, attentive and amazing. Henry's team didnt skip a beat. Walter drove us around island for two days for two small tours with toddler and was so accommodating and patient. We truly loved our time here. We love beautiful Savai'i and it's amazing community

My family and I recently stayed at Amoa Beach Resort. Getting to Savai’i is via ferry, it wasn’t too confusing however we were lucky enough to have a family member help us navigate this and was quite easy. We were greeted warmly by the staff who immediately started unloading our bags. Once all checked in, we received a beautiful drink to get settled in. The staff were happy to accommodate our requests for our large group which felt like it was done with ease. This place is gorgeous! We were lucky enough to have one of our two rooms as the poolside villa and this did not disappoint! The room was spacious and super clean! And we even had an outdoor shower which felt super lux! The swim up bar is cool! We enjoyed dinner and we were looked after by Joe! He was lovely and super attentive and an even better sense of humour that our group loved! The sunset views from the ocean deck was like no other! We were able to enjoy sunset with a few drinks and felt like we were able to relax and enjoy the view. When we return to Savai’i again, we will be sure to stay again!

Highly recommend this business. The staff front of house, bar staff, cleaning staff and security infact everyone. We're just authentically beautiful. It was great to hear them speaking their own language. Unlike where we stayed in Apia - it makes it more special. The food was such great quality and tasted divine and the presentation was excellent. The quality of the bed linen was good and air conditioning was also appreciated. Not far from port and it felt like a home away from home. Not overly commercial ❤️ Thank you so much

Our experience summed up into one word - Perfect. We had a car to bring over to Savaii but mucked up the ferry and wasn’t able to. A couple hours before getting on the ferry I phoned Amoa hoping someone could pick us up was delighted by Miriyama who was so accomodating and told us not to worry. They were able to pick us up in a pristine bus and Moe was the best he was there ready and waiting. Upon getting to the resort and being worried about now unexpectedly not having a car how we would see everything that wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg. Miriyama had sorted out for us a full day tour which was run by Koki and Moe and boy was it the absolute best day to date. We saw great sites, were never rushed and never felt like a burden. Water and fruit was also prepared for us and kept cold. Whatever we needed they gave and also shared a lot of information and answered all our questions. It was also better priced than what tour operators were providing which surprised me as normally resorts are more expensive. The rest of our stay was faultless. The service in the restaurant, reception, concierge - you name it was excellent. Joe is a superstar in the restaurant but we also had fun with Tua and Joshua. Front reception was also great. We went to church on the Sunday and that was a great experience too. The beach area across the road is stellar and we thoroughly enjoyed it along with the pool. Overall I can’t say anything negative. After 3 nights (which let me assure you is NOT enough), we went back to Upolu and checked in to another hotel and I have serious Post Amoa Blues. I miss the staff and the place. Savai’i is special and they made us feel valued. If you’re considering your stay, stop and book. You won’t be disappointed. Thank you to everyone for such a great experience, it was so filling for our soul and we hope one day to come back.

I stayed at Amoa on the 19th last week with my partner, and it was my very first time in Savai’i, a trip I will never forget because it’s where my man proposed to me 🤍🥹 Thank you, Amoa, for your generosity, warm hospitality, and kindness from the moment we arrived. Every step of the way, we felt welcomed and genuinely cared for. We are a very young couple, and we truly appreciated that you looked beyond our age and treated us with such respect and warmth. The place is absolutely beautiful. I love nature, and this resort gave me exactly that. The surroundings are peaceful and refreshing, and everything was so hygienic and clean 😍 It made the whole experience even more comfortable and relaxing. We had such a wonderful experience with such kind people. Highly recommended, and we can’t wait to come back again 🤍✨
