Stevenson's at Manase
About this property
Stevenson's at Manase is a long-established beachfront resort on Savai'i's north coast, set on the same Manase white-sand stretch as several other family-run beach-fale operators. The location is the property's strongest asset — direct beach access with excellent snorkelling out front, including resident turtles. Recent guest feedback consistently notes that the resort itself is overdue for renovation: paint, decks, and the pool have all been flagged as needing maintenance, and rooms vary in condition. Travellers comfortable with a worn-but-functional resort, rather than a polished one, generally still report a positive stay for the location alone. Mosquito nets are provided; checking yours on arrival is sensible. Best suited to guests prioritising the beach and snorkelling over room finish. Manase has several alternative dining options within a short walk if the on-site kitchen doesn't appeal on a given evening.

Best stays in Samoa: where to sleep across Upolu and Savai'i
Samoa's accommodation runs the full spectrum — from US$30-a-night beach fales where you sleep open-air to the lagoon, through family-run boutique hotels in Apia, all the way to five-star resorts with overwater bungalows. Picking the right one depends entirely on what you're after: barefoot authenticity, restaurant variety, or a swim-up bar.
Best stays in Savai'i, Samoa
Savai'i is the second-largest island in Polynesia and Samoa's quiet half — most travellers spend two or three nights here on a Samoa trip. Accommodation is mostly family-run: traditional beach fales along the coast, a handful of mid-range resorts, and a few eco-lodges set back from the road.
Best beaches in Samoa
Samoa's beaches are the kind that consistently top "world's best" lists and somehow stay uncrowded. Most are on customary land — you'll pay a small village fee (typically WST 5–20) at the gate, which goes back into maintaining the site. Below: the ones our travellers come back about.

The layout of this place is very odd. There is never anyone at reception and if you ever manage to find someone they are not friendly or welcoming. I had to keep asking the gardener questions, at least he was helpful. I would not stay there again.

The resort was okay, needing a major upgrade!!! But the rooms were disgusting 🤮 cock roaches crawling in the beds, up the walls in the cupboards! The smell of the room was so off putting & wouldn’t go away! The workers in the resort were nice & the location is beautiful but the resort itself needs to shut down & worked on. I dont recommend staying here especially with young children.

Stayed here for a week. Great spot but needs a refresh of paint and the pool needs a good clean and tiles put back in place. Would of been beautiful when it was first built. Food was average but other places to eat close by.

As others have said the place is way past it's hay day, in desperate need of maintenance. While we were there part of the deck was being replaced so hopefully this is a sign of things to come. Getting down to the beach was dodgy due to slippery rocks. My suggestion would be a floating pontoon, easy made with half a dozen mussel buoys. The meals were expensive and not particularly traditional Samoan, though the fish crepe entrées were a bargin, delicious and not much smaller than the mains. The staff were friendly and helpful and the beautiful location were highlights. More like staying at a NZ bach than a 3 star hotel.

Room was clean, ocean access right in front of the villa was great! Place is due for major renovations to bring it back to its former glory, but temper your expectations away from a 5 star resort and you will be pleasantly surprised like we were.

The hotel is falling apart – whether it's the Fales or the rooms, it's absolutely not worth the price. The reception staff is completely incompetent and won’t help you with anything, not even calling a taxi – you’ll have to ask them at least 10 times before they finally do it. Avoid this place at all costs; it shouldn’t even still be open. There is no beach, the pool is in terrible condition and full of algae, the terrace is crumbling, and the breakfast includes canned pineapple (despite being on a tropical island), cold baked beans, and nothing of interest. We ended up spending most of our time at nearby resorts where the service and food were far better. We only came back to the hotel to sleep, hoping not to get bedbugs because of how bad the rooms were
