Best stays in Samoa: where to sleep across Upolu and Savai'i
Samoa's accommodation runs the full spectrum — from US$30-a-night beach fales where you sleep open-air to the lagoon, through family-run boutique hotels in Apia, all the way to five-star resorts with overwater bungalows. Picking the right one depends entirely on what you're after: barefoot authenticity, restaurant variety, or a swim-up bar.
Best stays in Savai'i, Samoa
Savai'i is the second-largest island in Polynesia and Samoa's quiet half — most travellers spend two or three nights here on a Samoa trip. Accommodation is mostly family-run: traditional beach fales along the coast, a handful of mid-range resorts, and a few eco-lodges set back from the road.
Best beaches in Samoa
Samoa's beaches are the kind that consistently top "world's best" lists and somehow stay uncrowded. Most are on customary land — you'll pay a small village fee (typically WST 5–20) at the gate, which goes back into maintaining the site. Below: the ones our travellers come back about.

The resort was okay, needing a major upgrade!!! But the rooms were disgusting 🤮 cock roaches crawling in the beds, up the walls in the cupboards! The smell of the room was so off putting & wouldn’t go away! The workers in the resort were nice & the location is beautiful but the resort itself needs to shut down & worked on. I dont recommend staying here especially with young children.

Stayed here for a week. Great spot but needs a refresh of paint and the pool needs a good clean and tiles put back in place. Would of been beautiful when it was first built. Food was average but other places to eat close by.

As others have said the place is way past it's hay day, in desperate need of maintenance. While we were there part of the deck was being replaced so hopefully this is a sign of things to come. Getting down to the beach was dodgy due to slippery rocks. My suggestion would be a floating pontoon, easy made with half a dozen mussel buoys. The meals were expensive and not particularly traditional Samoan, though the fish crepe entrées were a bargin, delicious and not much smaller than the mains. The staff were friendly and helpful and the beautiful location were highlights. More like staying at a NZ bach than a 3 star hotel.

Room was clean, ocean access right in front of the villa was great! Place is due for major renovations to bring it back to its former glory, but temper your expectations away from a 5 star resort and you will be pleasantly surprised like we were.

Although positioned in a beautiful place, the resort is very run down and needs a lot of work. The rooms were clean but no hot water. Mosquito nets supplied but some with holes. The food was OK, but so overpriced. This resort would be OK if not expected to pay top price. It's not value for money. Snorkelling out the front is amazing. We were able to swim with two turtles. We could hire gear from the hotel. But it's expansive. So many places to snorkel. It's advisable to bring your own. We dud enjoy our time due to the beautiful natural features and the traditional fales, however not at the price paid.
