Best stays in Samoa: where to sleep across Upolu and Savai'i
Samoa's accommodation runs the full spectrum — from US$30-a-night beach fales where you sleep open-air to the lagoon, through family-run boutique hotels in Apia, all the way to five-star resorts with overwater bungalows. Picking the right one depends entirely on what you're after: barefoot authenticity, restaurant variety, or a swim-up bar.
Best stays in Upolu, Samoa
Upolu is where most Samoa trips start. Faleolo International Airport, the capital Apia, and the bulk of the country's resort-tier accommodation all sit here. The south coast (Lalomanu, Lotofaga, Siumu) is the postcard side; the north has Apia and the working harbour.
Best beaches in Samoa
Samoa's beaches are the kind that consistently top "world's best" lists and somehow stay uncrowded. Most are on customary land — you'll pay a small village fee (typically WST 5–20) at the gate, which goes back into maintaining the site. Below: the ones our travellers come back about.

Staying in Sinalei was a great experience! Lovely staff and the best location. Food was compared to other resorts reasonably priced and every meal we had was delicious. We also loved our room with an amazing bed and had a lot of privacy. We did not mind the (light) tropical breakfast since the bread was lovely and there was plenty of fruit and spreads.

The Good: The resort is lovely, with a beautiful and well-maintained garden surrounding the bungalows. The staff is friendly, and the tuna in the restaurant is exceptionally good. The Bad: Unfortunately, the bed sheets and pool towels were stained about 80% of the time. Getting a replacement was surprisingly difficult; even after being promised a new one, nothing would happen. Additionally, fresh coconuts were never available, despite us asking twice a day. The spa attendant also seemed quite annoyed when we inquired about a massage, even though her calendar was completely empty. The included "tropical breakfast" consists only of fruit, toast, jam, and two types of cereal. If you want eggs, an omelet, a breakfast burrito, or bacon, you have to pay extra. We were very disappointed by this, as it is not what you would expect from a 4-star resort.

Resort was very nice, felt very welcomed by the staff especially Glory who made my stay as an anxious first time solo traveller very comfortable. She went above and beyond to making sure that I was looked after and when she wasn’t working, she would tell her co-workers to make sure to check up on me to see if I was doing okay so thank you so so much Glory!! I stayed in both the garden view room and the villa and to be honest I preferred the the garden view with the outside bathroom room as when going toilet in the villa, smell tends to simmer quite quickly in villa due to lack of a bathroom fan. With food I enjoyed the poke the most followed by the oka which I would frequently order alongside a main meal. Also I loved the island fries and wished that I could take it home with me :,) It is important to add that I stayed at this resort for 7 days with the first half of my stay being one out of like 2 or 3 guests staying here during quiet season so if going during busy season (mid year), you may not get the same experience I did (frequent staff attentiveness, checking in with me etc as they’ll definitely will be busy with a whole bunch of guests) so definitely recommend going during off tourist season for best experience. That being said I’m sure staff will still be as welcoming to you as they were to me during busy season. Thank you to all Sinalei staff for the lovely stay and experience!!

We had our wedding here this past Thursday, and we truly cannot put into words how grateful and happy we are with the entire experience. From the very beginning, our event coordinator Illy was absolutely wonderful. Her professionalism, kindness, and attention to detail made everything feel seamless and stress-free. Illy and her team brought everything together so beautifully, and most importantly, my wife was truly happy, which means everything to us. A special shout-out to the beautiful staff who worked so hard behind the scenes and on the day itself. Every interaction was warm, respectful, and genuine, and it really made us feel cared for and supported throughout our special day. The location itself is simply breathtaking. Surrounded by lush greenery, flowers, tall trees, and coconut trees, the atmosphere is peaceful, romantic, and naturally beautiful. It is a place that always feels calm and special. Sinalei is not only a stunning resort, but a truly wonderful place filled with heart, beauty, and amazing people. We are so thankful to have chosen this place to begin our journey as husband and wife, and we will forever cherish the memories made here. Fa’afetai tele lava and thank you from the bottom of our hearts 🤍

I'd love to give a better overall rating, however - I got food poisoning from the carbonara I ordered. the location is amazing - quiet, prestine. overall - could probably get better value for money staying somewhere cheaper. rooms are nice enough, but not for how much u're paying. service was good - staff were really nice & really helpful. however on 2 occasions they ran out of food very fast. again, wish i could give a better rating. but now leaving probably never able to eat carbonara ever again
