Maninoa Surf Accommodation
About this property
Maninoa Accommodation and Surf in Siumu is a family-run, surfer-focused stay on Samoa's south coast, run by Levi Luamanuvae — director of Maninoa Surf Tours and an experienced surf instructor. Daily surf tours cater to all skill levels, from first-time surfers picking up a board for the first time to seasoned surfers chasing reef breaks. Lessons and guided sessions are tailored to what each guest wants from the day. A boat is available for transport to prime surf spots along the southern coast of Upolu, where clear turquoise waters meet golden sand and the breaks are uncrowded. Beyond surfing, the team also runs fishing and snorkelling tours — three of the most-requested water experiences in Samoa, all bookable straight from the property. Bookings and inquiries: email mbs.luamanuvae@gmail.com.

Best stays in Samoa: where to sleep across Upolu and Savai'i
Samoa's accommodation runs the full spectrum — from US$30-a-night beach fales where you sleep open-air to the lagoon, through family-run boutique hotels in Apia, all the way to five-star resorts with overwater bungalows. Picking the right one depends entirely on what you're after: barefoot authenticity, restaurant variety, or a swim-up bar.
Best stays in Upolu, Samoa
Upolu is where most Samoa trips start. Faleolo International Airport, the capital Apia, and the bulk of the country's resort-tier accommodation all sit here. The south coast (Lalomanu, Lotofaga, Siumu) is the postcard side; the north has Apia and the working harbour.
Best beach fales in Samoa: traditional open-air stays
The beach fale (pronounced FAH-leh) is Samoa's signature stay — a traditional thatched-roof hut, open to the ocean breeze, on the sand. You sleep on a mattress with a mosquito net, the family runs the kitchen, and dinner is whatever was caught that day. It's the cheapest and most authentic way to stay in Samoa.
Best beaches in Samoa
Samoa's beaches are the kind that consistently top "world's best" lists and somehow stay uncrowded. Most are on customary land — you'll pay a small village fee (typically WST 5–20) at the gate, which goes back into maintaining the site. Below: the ones our travellers come back about.

We booked the “Executive Apartment / Accommodation” at Maninoa Surf Fale through Line Up Surf only to arrive and find somebody else already staying in the room we had paid for. Instead of properly explaining the situation or offering a solution, they simply walked us to a completely different room with only ONE bed despite our booking clearly being for 2 adults and 2 children. When we explained this was not the room we booked, we were told there was “nothing they could do” and that we needed to contact Line Up Surf ourselves because they already had the money. We were left with no choice but to find somewhere else to stay at our own expense after already paying for accommodation in advance. Being stuck in that situation with children after arriving was incredibly stressful and completely unacceptable. What followed was an absolute nightmare. It took nearly a YEAR to recover our money and involved a bank investigation and even a police report before we finally received a refund. No business should put customers through that over accommodation they failed to provide. The lack of accountability, communication and customer service from both sides was shocking. No proper assistance was offered, no urgency was shown, and we were effectively left stranded to sort the problem out ourselves. Beautiful location means nothing when the management and booking process are this poor. Avoid at all costs.

I had a booking for one of the fales, it got cancelled by them , they offered me a refund or to pay more to go into a luxury room. I chose the refund and I never received it. They have ignored my emails and when they have responded they have been very un-profeshional. Very disappointing !

Amazing surrounding. Fales are a bit too small for a big group of people and they're not sheltered well from the rain especially. Kitchen staff are friendly. The food is tasty but portions are too small if you're dying to eat. I would say the food was pricey.

We are so glad we found this place! It's between two high end resorts, but we were able to park our car and access the beach for much cheaper than the resorts. Snorkeling was excellent although I would recommend not at low tide. Offshore there are some spikey looking urchins (?) so watch where you step--otherwise very safe, absolutely calm waters. The owner's dog "brownie" even kept us company and provided entertainment for the afternoon as he playfully caught crabs on the beach! Owners are lovely down to earth Samoans.
