Kitesurfing in Samoa: lessons, rentals and where to base yourself

Samoa is not a famous kite destination, which is part of the appeal: one dedicated school, uncrowded water and lessons in English, French or Spanish. Seki Kitesurf at Sataoa, on the south coast of Upolu, is the country's only kiteboarding lessons and rental centre, run by an IKO-certified instructor.

About this guide

The school runs a beginner package of five two-hour lessons, a single discovery or refresher session for anyone who has kited before, and equipment rental by the three-hour session for independent riders. Conditions are wind-dependent, so lessons are scheduled around the forecast — ask the school about the season and the best months before you lock in dates, and keep a day or two flexible. Sataoa sits on the south coast between the capital and the Lalomanu beaches, so the stays below on Upolu put you within a drive of the launch; the south-coast resorts and beach fales are the natural base. Book the lesson first, then the room.
