Best stays in Samoa: where to sleep across Upolu and Savai'i
Samoa's accommodation runs the full spectrum — from US$30-a-night beach fales where you sleep open-air to the lagoon, through family-run boutique hotels in Apia, all the way to five-star resorts with overwater bungalows. Picking the right one depends entirely on what you're after: barefoot authenticity, restaurant variety, or a swim-up bar.
Best stays in Upolu, Samoa
Upolu is where most Samoa trips start. Faleolo International Airport, the capital Apia, and the bulk of the country's resort-tier accommodation all sit here. The south coast (Lalomanu, Lotofaga, Siumu) is the postcard side; the north has Apia and the working harbour.
Best resorts in Samoa
If you want pool, multiple restaurants, an actual spa and a structured kids' programme, you want a resort — and Samoa's resort tier is concentrated on Upolu's south coast plus a handful on Savai'i. Below are the published full-service properties across both islands.
Best beaches in Samoa
Samoa's beaches are the kind that consistently top "world's best" lists and somehow stay uncrowded. Most are on customary land — you'll pay a small village fee (typically WST 5–20) at the gate, which goes back into maintaining the site. Below: the ones our travellers come back about.

Beautifully kept and serviced property. The rooms were very comfortable and clean. The reef right beneath your feet and is only accessible to Aga guests with snorkeling gear and kayaks accessible at any time. Also close to some of the best beaches on that side of the island. 10/10 stay

We rented a car from the airport and drove to the resort. The drive is easy and took us close to 2 hours as we were going slow and enjoying looking at all the villages we drove through on the way. Resort has an amazing location, the views are so good from the bungalow we stayed in (which was very clean and well cared for). Snorkelling in the lagoon was great fun, with so many fish and corals to see. We even saw turtles. The resort staff were great and the owners helped us with so much local information, including showing us where we could fish from the resort, trying to tempt some bluefin trevally or GTs. Food and drinks in the restaurant were all great, we are so pleased we chose this resort and hope to some back again soon.

This place was a surprise/gift for my wife. It was recommended by my mum, who stayed here a couple of years prior.. In terms of communication with Aga Reef Resort, they were beyond amazing (all done via email). With briefing them in, that it was our honeymoon trip. They provided and dressed our room up for the occasion. All staff were friendly and welcoming. With the scenery and private retreats. It was a much needed change, from the busy hustle that Apia can bring. We spent half our stay swimming in the Lagoon. The other day enjoying the amenities, our room had to offer. The pictures and videos do not justify how incredible this place is. When we return one day, we will definitely stay here again. I highly recommend what Aga Reef Resort has to offer. Thank you again! ❤️

We had a phenomenal stay here. The staff are kind and knowledgeable. The restaurant was opened at convenient hours and served great food - the chilled coconut as a drink was a highlight. They had snorkel gear and board games we could borrow. The rooms were beautiful and the views couldn’t be beat (see pic - taken from the deck of the VIP Villa). If you’re looking for a boutique, romantic place to stay, this is a great spot.

I spent 3 nights here and truly enjoyed my time in this beautiful little oasis! The front desk staff was so friendly and accommodating, and my bartender Fatu was so nice and made great cocktails. The room, bungalow 1, was awesome. The views of the mountain and waterfall was very special. The bed was a bit soft for my taste, and I wish there was a door to the bathroom, as daylight came in quickly in the morning. The private patio was great, and the mini fridge came in handy. Breakfast was really good each day, as I enjoyed the fruits and eggs made your way. I also had dinner there twice, and the food was really good with a nice presentation. The infinity pool over looking the ocean was also a nice addition. Snorkeling was really good with plenty of sea life all around. This resort is absolutely perfect especially if you're here with your significant other. It is very peaceful and relaxing. The proximity to a bunch of sites was also really cool. I highly recommend staying here while in Samoa!
