Faofao Beach Fales
About this property
Faofao Beach Fales is a small family-run operation in a peaceful Saleapaga village on Upolu's south-east coast. Reviewers consistently describe the experience as the kind of authentic beach-fale stay the listing photos promise: a wooden fale a few steps from the lagoon, breakfast included, dinner cooked by the host family. The fales are basic and breezy, with mosquito nets and sea-breeze ventilation in place of air conditioning. Power outlets are located in the central eating area rather than in each fale — bring a power bank if you need to charge overnight. Dinner is approximately WST 35 per person, served family-style; the bar in the main dining hut opens before sunset for drinks on the beach. The water in front of the fales is crystal clear and shallow at low tide, making it safe for all ages. Light sleepers should be aware that waves are audible from the fales — for some this is the appeal, for others it can be tricky to sleep through.

Best stays in Samoa: where to sleep across Upolu and Savai'i
Samoa's accommodation runs the full spectrum — from US$30-a-night beach fales where you sleep open-air to the lagoon, through family-run boutique hotels in Apia, all the way to five-star resorts with overwater bungalows. Picking the right one depends entirely on what you're after: barefoot authenticity, restaurant variety, or a swim-up bar.
Best stays in Upolu, Samoa
Upolu is where most Samoa trips start. Faleolo International Airport, the capital Apia, and the bulk of the country's resort-tier accommodation all sit here. The south coast (Lalomanu, Lotofaga, Siumu) is the postcard side; the north has Apia and the working harbour.
Best beaches in Samoa
Samoa's beaches are the kind that consistently top "world's best" lists and somehow stay uncrowded. Most are on customary land — you'll pay a small village fee (typically WST 5–20) at the gate, which goes back into maintaining the site. Below: the ones our travellers come back about.

We stayed here for 2 nights in an open fale for a more traditional experience of Samoan life. It is nothing like anything we have ever done before. There are communal showers and flushing toilets, the waves are a few steps away and the price is inclusive of a delicious breakfast home cooked by the family. To Sua is only about 10 minutes away and there are other resorts with restaurants you can try, or you can pay for a dinner here at Faofao. This is something everyone should try. Thank you Faofao 🫶🏼

Stayed at this lovely fale and it was low-key the peak Samoa experience, no cap. The hosts were absolute legends with main character energy, making us feel right at home. But let’s talk about the dinner—the portions were actually delulu. One plate was literally enough to feed three people; I haven't been this stuffed since... well, since I "fale" asleep after my last big meal (get it?). Watching the kids vibe and play in the water was 10/10 wholesome content. Honestly, if you don't stay here, you're taking a massive L. It was a "fale-tastic" time for the whole "fale-mily"!

Beautiful beach fales south east of Upolu. The fales are authentic and really comfortable. The shared facilities are really good. The owners and staff are all really welcoming and look after you, the food they provide for breakfast and dinner is delicious. Dinner was 35WST per person per night but worth it for the amount of food you get. There is also a bar in the main dinner hut which they open earlier in the evening so that you can get a drink and enjoy it on the beach. The beach itself is really clean, the water is super clear, and there's some ok snorkelling if you go a little bit further out - the coral is slowly regenerating but there's lots of fish. They'll give you snorkels too if you need. If you walk further along the beach west, you'll get to see the sunset fully. We stayed 2 nights but could have easily spent a week here. After driving around the whole island, it's definitely one of the best spots and nicest beaches!

Beautiful location in a remote, peaceful village. The owners are wonderful and the lovely staff made very yummy breakfast and dinner. The water is clean, crystal clear, and stunning. Very shallow especially at low tide and safe for all ages to swim. The fale is basic but nice and breezy most days with a mosquito net. There is a friendly guard dog who knows who the guests are and only bark at strangers cars and cute cats who come around during meal times. Highly recommend staying a few days when in Samoa!

Stayed here for 4 nights and it was great. Staff is very friendly, and the fales were clean. To be clear, they are exactly as advertised- a little wooden shack at the edge of the beach. Nothing wrong with that, but don’t reserve these thinking it will be a hotel room😂 bathrooms were in good shape, breakfast was included and deliciously home cooked by the owners, and there is a power outlet in the eating area to charge your phone and stuff. Can’t beat waking up to the sound of the ocean and the private beach, however

Beautiful place! You sleep just a few steps from the ocean — like a little paradise. The waves can be quite loud at night though, so sleeping might be tricky for light sleepers. We were lucky with the weather, but I’m not sure how comfortable it would be with heavy rain. The family running it is super friendly and the food was delicious!
