Best stays in Samoa: where to sleep across Upolu and Savai'i
Samoa's accommodation runs the full spectrum — from US$30-a-night beach fales where you sleep open-air to the lagoon, through family-run boutique hotels in Apia, all the way to five-star resorts with overwater bungalows. Picking the right one depends entirely on what you're after: barefoot authenticity, restaurant variety, or a swim-up bar.
Best stays in Upolu, Samoa
Upolu is where most Samoa trips start. Faleolo International Airport, the capital Apia, and the bulk of the country's resort-tier accommodation all sit here. The south coast (Lalomanu, Lotofaga, Siumu) is the postcard side; the north has Apia and the working harbour.
Best resorts in Samoa
If you want pool, multiple restaurants, an actual spa and a structured kids' programme, you want a resort — and Samoa's resort tier is concentrated on Upolu's south coast plus a handful on Savai'i. Below are the published full-service properties across both islands.
Best beaches in Samoa
Samoa's beaches are the kind that consistently top "world's best" lists and somehow stay uncrowded. Most are on customary land — you'll pay a small village fee (typically WST 5–20) at the gate, which goes back into maintaining the site. Below: the ones our travellers come back about.

Amazing stay at Saletoga Resort. Staff were super friendly, especial shoutout to Farani. Resort is beautiful and with many facilities to enjoy. Breakfast was delicious and abundant with many options, even gluten free (super hard to find gf food anywhere in Samoa). The food at the restaurant was also delicious and varied in options. There was BBQ night on Saturdays and Samoan food buffet on Wednesdays with an amazing traditional show done by the staff. So cool to watch. The only downside is the wifi connection which was very poor. And also, the location is nice but there isn’t any other restaurant in the area, so the only dining option is the hotel’s restaurant, which is good, but it’s something relevant to have into consideration.

This is an amazing resort I can't recommend it enough. The place is beautiful, so much care has gone into the landscaping, gardens, atmosphere etc, the beach and water is pure bliss with great snorkelling. The people are exceptionally friendly and helpful, the best staff I've seen from the receptionist to gardeners, cleaners and the boss man! but especially the bar staff! The rooms are lovely, comfortable, spacious and clean. Great food and drink selection at the restaurant. Excellent breakfast, everything is fresh. You're able to take tours from the resort or hire a car/bike and explore yourself. If you're considering a island holiday definitely choose Samoa (it's beautiful, safe, un-commercialised and natural) and definitely choose Saletoga Sands.

Had an amazing time at Saletoga. Staff were friendly and helpful. Lots to do during the day and very chilled during the night. Food was of high standard. Good variety and staff proactive in checking tables if we needed anything Met the owners. Very humble nice people. I didn’t realise they were the owners the were just friendly people having a chat until I asked what they do for work lol Wifi limited but I was there to disconnect so no complaints

A true gem in Samoa! I’m so glad we stayed here. The resort offers incredible food, stunning pools, and private beaches. The room rates and meals were very affordable, and a full breakfast was included. Our room was spacious, well-maintained, and came with great amenities like indoor and outdoor showers, A/C, a patio, and plenty of space to relax. A few things to note: • Restaurant service could use improvement. While the staff were friendly, our orders were mixed up multiple times, drinks arrived late (sometimes after our meal), and check-out took longer than expected. • WiFi was only available in common areas, not in the rooms, and the daily code refresh from the front desk was a bit inconvenient. • On two separate occasions, I saw two people—presumably owners or managers—yell at the kitchen staff, which was very disheartening to witness. • While the grounds are kept immaculate, it was hard to fully relax at the pool when the staff would loudly power-wash the area for hours on multiple occasions. Despite these minor issues, this place is worth every penny—BOOK IT! You won’t regret it.

Had an excellent stay here for 4 nights, with our 3yo. Lots of awesome amenities like kayaks, kids club, snorkel gear. Close to some good tourist spots. Nice snorkling and pool. Playground is very run down and not really used, neither is the kids pool which is next to the playground in the fenced area. Our air con didn't work but they set us up with a temporary one and put in a new one the next day. The food options were good but got repetitive after a while. There's not many other options nearby so a rental car to eat elsewhere was very useful. Breakfast simple but tasty with varying options. Stunning grounds. Lots of beaches. Never felt over crowded.
