Best stays in Samoa: where to sleep across Upolu and Savai'i
Samoa's accommodation runs the full spectrum — from US$30-a-night beach fales where you sleep open-air to the lagoon, through family-run boutique hotels in Apia, all the way to five-star resorts with overwater bungalows. Picking the right one depends entirely on what you're after: barefoot authenticity, restaurant variety, or a swim-up bar.
Best stays in Upolu, Samoa
Upolu is where most Samoa trips start. Faleolo International Airport, the capital Apia, and the bulk of the country's resort-tier accommodation all sit here. The south coast (Lalomanu, Lotofaga, Siumu) is the postcard side; the north has Apia and the working harbour.
Best resorts in Samoa
If you want pool, multiple restaurants, an actual spa and a structured kids' programme, you want a resort — and Samoa's resort tier is concentrated on Upolu's south coast plus a handful on Savai'i. Below are the published full-service properties across both islands.
Best beaches in Samoa
Samoa's beaches are the kind that consistently top "world's best" lists and somehow stay uncrowded. Most are on customary land — you'll pay a small village fee (typically WST 5–20) at the gate, which goes back into maintaining the site. Below: the ones our travellers come back about.

We stayed at the White House for a short one night before your flight out of Apia. The staff were lovely and organised an airport transfer for us promptly, although we got checked into our room without bath towels, the wifi password or any knowledge of our TV being broken. We came to find that the air conditioning was also severely malfunctioning and terrifying loud, sounding like it were to explode at any moment. Otherwise we were left in extreme heat as the fan also only had one function which was also very loud. We had a sleepless night. It appeared the walls and ceilings are also paper thin, hearing loud footsteps late at night, the loud noises of broken air conditioners in other rooms and also the sound of another room urinating in their toilet! Not very pleasant. Can’t recommend a stay here

We had an awful experience and couldn’t wait to leave. We left after just two nights. Our room was on the first floor, and directly outside the room was a small table and chairs. Guests from the neighbouring room repeatedly sat there, talking loudly early in the morning. On the first day, we were woken at 6am by chairs being dragged and loud conversation, which was particularly frustrating after a long flight and dealing with the time difference. We raised this with the hotel staff, who said they would speak to the guests, but nothing changed. The following morning was even worse — they were outside again at 5:30am, talking and even singing. I eventually had to open the door and ask them to be quiet as we were trying to sleep. While they lowered the volume slightly, the noise continued. It was extremely disrespectful and completely avoidable. Placing seating directly outside guest rooms makes no sense, especially when there are plenty of other areas in the hotel for people to sit. We were travelling with young children (aged 2 and 8), which made the lack of consideration even more frustrating. Overall, a very poor experience and not somewhere we would ever return to.

My third time staying at this fantastic little gem of a hotel. The location, the facilities and the staff were all great. There is also free parking and a great breakfast for a very reasonable price. This is the third time I chose to stay at this great place. It is within walking distance to Fugalei market, there is an ice cream parlour literally across the road and the supermarket is less than 5 min walking distance. The air conditioner is also new and powerful

I had the pleasure of staying at White House Hotel Samoa, checking in on the 4th of April, and from the moment we arrived, we were greeted with such a warm and beautiful welcome by reception. The hospitality truly set the tone for our entire stay. One of the highlights each morning was enjoying the traditional Samoan breakfast. We were lucky enough to have dishes like Alaisa Fa’apopo, Koko Alaisa, and my personal favourite, Sua Fa’i. It made the experience feel authentic and homely, something we looked forward to every single day. What really stood out was the consistency of the staff’s kindness. Whether it was early in the morning or returning from a long day out, we were always welcomed with genuine smiles and friendliness. It’s rare to experience that level of care throughout an entire stay. Our rooms were always well serviced, with comfortable beds and great air conditioning that kept us cool during the hot island days. Everything was clean, relaxing, and exactly what we needed to unwind. A special mention to Rosy Burgers — their in-house menu is a must try! I had the double cheeseburger, and it was absolutely massive and delicious. Definitely one of the best meals during our stay. We also explored the nearby Fugalei Market, which is only about a 10-minute walk from the hotel. After picking up some local food, the staff kindly allowed us to use their dining area to enjoy our meals. That level of generosity and flexibility really meant a lot to us. The hotel also has security on-site at night, which made us feel very safe and comfortable. Honestly, I have never stayed at a place where every single staff member goes above and beyond to cater to guests’ needs like they do here. Thank you, White House Samoa, for giving us such a wonderful and unforgettable experience. We will definitely be back. Till next time, Tofa soifua 🌺❤️ Sia and family

I stayed at the White House for three weeks and enjoyed my stay! The hotel is a short walk away from Apia’s town center, restaurants, a supermarket, and a laundromat making it easy to get around without renting a car. The staff are some of the friendliest and most helpful people you’ll ever meet. They were always available to help me, whether it was do direct me to the nearest laundromat, call me a taxi, or fix my AC. Some of the best customer service I’ve ever seen. For those coming from the U.S. and other places who are used to a certain kind of hotel, know that the rooms are very basic and no frills and that the WiFi can be hit or miss, so I’d recommend getting a local SIM/eSIM upon arrival. The hotel sits on a main road, so it can get a bit noisy in the mornings starting around 7am. Plan to bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper! The staff keep the rooms impeccably cleaned and are always happy to help if something needs attention. My AC stopped working and they were able to get it fixed within the day! I overall had a wonderful stay! I would definitely recommend White House to those who are planning on exploring Samoa and being out of the hotel most of the time!
