Best stays in Samoa: where to sleep across Upolu and Savai'i
Samoa's accommodation runs the full spectrum — from US$30-a-night beach fales where you sleep open-air to the lagoon, through family-run boutique hotels in Apia, all the way to five-star resorts with overwater bungalows. Picking the right one depends entirely on what you're after: barefoot authenticity, restaurant variety, or a swim-up bar.
Best stays in Upolu, Samoa
Upolu is where most Samoa trips start. Faleolo International Airport, the capital Apia, and the bulk of the country's resort-tier accommodation all sit here. The south coast (Lalomanu, Lotofaga, Siumu) is the postcard side; the north has Apia and the working harbour.
Best resorts in Samoa
If you want pool, multiple restaurants, an actual spa and a structured kids' programme, you want a resort — and Samoa's resort tier is concentrated on Upolu's south coast plus a handful on Savai'i. Below are the published full-service properties across both islands.
Best beaches in Samoa
Samoa's beaches are the kind that consistently top "world's best" lists and somehow stay uncrowded. Most are on customary land — you'll pay a small village fee (typically WST 5–20) at the gate, which goes back into maintaining the site. Below: the ones our travellers come back about.

I chose to stay here mainly for the convenient location, as it was within walking distance of where I needed to be — but the experience ended up exceeding all expectations. The service was outstanding, the rooms were fantastic, and the staff were incredibly warm and welcoming. I truly enjoyed my stay and would highly recommend this hotel.

The place was decent but overpriced for what you get. We spent nearly 600 tala for two nights. Wifi wasn’t included, and a full hot breakfast was an extra 40 tala per person, not great either, eggs were cold and we had to eat in our rooms with little space to put our plates, just a small wall table where the kettle was and only enough room for one person to eat. Laundry cost 75 tala. The cleaning lady was lovely, but front desk service wasn’t very attentive. The man sitting in what looked like the old café (possibly the owner) kept calling family members to the reception when guests were waiting. The room itself was nice, although one bed was missing a bedside drawer. After two weeks in Samoa, we booked this place just to enjoy air con and a hot shower and it delivered on that. But overall, not worth the price, and I wouldn’t stay here again.

Location is just Great Situated in the heart of Apia, making it convenient for accessing the town's center, markets (Fugalei Fresh Produce Market and Flea Market are nearby), shops, and restaurants. Friendly Staff: The helpfulness and friendliness of the staff are something that is part of Moatoga Team - Especially Katie who is in-charge of the reception.

I picked here for is location AND it's advertised WIFI service Alas no WIFI - Reception informs me their WIFI has been down 2 weeks - had I been notified I'd have stayed elsewhere. I've not been able to run my business 2 days...forced rest though it's starting to stress me the I can't do any online work! On the whole; it's a great place to rest your head off you are the adventurous type and need a clean; spacious room as your command centre! Perks: * Close to EVERYTHING * FRANKIE'S literally next door * APIA MARKETS literally across the road

There’s a lot of things needs improvement! The facility itself needs a whole renovation, in terms of plumbing & electrical as it’s unsafe. Unfortunately, the management & receptionist staff needs training on how to manage booking, although the receptionist was friendly, you literally have to go an extra length to explain what type of booking you’ve made. What includes in the booking, etc.. This should already be known in your booking system. I booked a room that includes free wife as it stated in the booking but they don’t offer free wifi. I even asked before I booked and the receptionist stated it included in our room if we’ve booked but wasn’t the case. Arghh disappointed. However, the staff is what stand out the most in this facility! They all need a pay rise. The security and the hotel staff. The lady I believe is the boss wife, get off of your high horse, atleast smile and welcome your customers, it’s the least you can do.
