Best stays in Samoa: where to sleep across Upolu and Savai'i
Samoa's accommodation runs the full spectrum — from US$30-a-night beach fales where you sleep open-air to the lagoon, through family-run boutique hotels in Apia, all the way to five-star resorts with overwater bungalows. Picking the right one depends entirely on what you're after: barefoot authenticity, restaurant variety, or a swim-up bar.
Best stays in Upolu, Samoa
Upolu is where most Samoa trips start. Faleolo International Airport, the capital Apia, and the bulk of the country's resort-tier accommodation all sit here. The south coast (Lalomanu, Lotofaga, Siumu) is the postcard side; the north has Apia and the working harbour.
Best resorts in Samoa
If you want pool, multiple restaurants, an actual spa and a structured kids' programme, you want a resort — and Samoa's resort tier is concentrated on Upolu's south coast plus a handful on Savai'i. Below are the published full-service properties across both islands.
Best beaches in Samoa
Samoa's beaches are the kind that consistently top "world's best" lists and somehow stay uncrowded. Most are on customary land — you'll pay a small village fee (typically WST 5–20) at the gate, which goes back into maintaining the site. Below: the ones our travellers come back about.

In short words - so much potential! Unfortunately this resort is not what it used to be. My family attended this years ago and was amazing. Not one to complain but honestly could be an amazing stay if the management just put a bit more effort into visitors! Here a few key points that really disappointed me: - The rooms are run down. The silicone around the bathrooms look terrible. The aircon is all in Chinese so cant understand a thing. The Tv was unplugged so we had to plug it all back in for it to work. - The room service would sometime miss our room so we had to call up and ask for our rooms to be serviced. Unfortunately floor mats or towels would be missing each day. - The cocktails are all made from cordials. In all honesty they are terrible. You are far better to walk to a neighbouring bar. - The facilities are amazing as they have a stage and pool bar. However the stage was only used on Friday night and the pool bar was only being used for visitors while they were filming their promo video. Otherwise no bartenders were occupying the area. Honestly would make such a big difference. We would have loved to sip fresh cocktails all day in the pool bar. - We also didnt get service next to the pools. We had to walk up to the restaurant and order. They also didnt clear glasses apart from the film crew trying to declutter our area to make the promo film look nicer. When we left we had over 8 glasses around us. Each one we had to walk up and order. - The buffet is very average. We often preferred walking to a bakery or store to get fresh foods. - The facilities are maintained to an average standard. I had to pick out a rubbish bag from the pool and there is an electrical cable dangling in the pool which is 100% a safety hazzard for everyone swimming. Both pools were green and mossy in parts as well. - Also not enough pool seating! Bit of a mission to get a seat some days. - Towel shortage! It was 50/50 if there would be towels. We got told we need to wait for laundry to be done on our old towels to get new ones. Same went for pool towels. Again a bit awkward when you have to wait for towels or have to walk down to the pool to get one. In general its not the aggie greys it used to be. The location is amazing but its a very average stay. Definitely not a 5 star hotel. After looking at similar reviews we see it’s a trending issue with room servicing, pool bar closed and poor room conditions. In my eyes not a hard fix to make it a enjoyable stay!

The staff/workers at Sheraton resort make you feel at home. Very nice people and had a lot of good conversations with the staff at Sheraton. The service was amazing, the staff would carry your belongings as they lead you to you’re room, I’ve never experienced that at a resort in New Zealand. The hotel is close to the markets, nice beaches and not far from tour attractions. Took About 30-45 mins to get to the piula cave pool from Sheraton hotel. The taxis Sheraton hotel use offer reasonable prices and are lovely trustworthy people I think it was magic k taxis or something like that. The people I met and spoke to at Sheraton or through the taxi service will be verry hard to forget as they were so lovely and we had some verry good conversations. The pools at Sheraton were beautiful and the performance at the restaurant was verry good. Food was ok at the restaurant but we preferred to go out elsewhere for tea after eating at the resort restaurant for the first couple nights. Breakfast was free and had a good range of options from cereal, toast to sausages, fried rice, eggs ur choice of how they were cooked good range of drinks. Our room was good, had air con and was regularly serviced. Will definitely come back some day even if it’s not to stay but to just see the people again. There’s a casino next to Sheraton if you’re into that and a nice beach with crystal clear waters about 5 mins away that you can access at the taumesina resort without being a guest there. Overall our stay was amazing and we are blessed we chose to stay with Sheraton for our 1 week holiday.

I don't rate the hotel much above 3 star if that. Each day of my June 2026 stay in a bungalow I had to go to reception at the end of the day and ask for room service. Even when it came they did not always clean the bathroom. The bungalow appointed was ok. Different in style. Very dark inside even with lights on. Shower leaked a bit. Plenty of flys in bathroom. Had better breakfasts in Ibis. Poor quality of bread. Not much in terms of options. Rubbish coffee from an urn. Egg station staff lovely but hopeless in organisation. No method and it's pot lick if you get your order delivered correctly to your table. Poorly managed. Swimming pool nice, the swim up bar did not seem to be operating. No staff. Drinks completely over priced for the location. Food overpriced and at best average. Nothing that was that out of the ordinary...pasta. Burgers, fried food. Chips. ..at UK or Australian prices. Never that warm either. Best to eat and drink out. General staff lovely but no idea how to run services within hotel. I discussed with the manger who was new to the job. He has a lot to do. You need to remember that this is over 200 AUD a night for well not much really. Location is reasonable. Would I return and recommend? No.

We stayed for a week for independence celebrations and we thouroughly enjoyed our stay at Sheraton. We have stayed and many resorts and one that gets too much hype👀 but Sheraton definitely exceeded all expectations as it was our first time staying here. Rooms are big and spacious, breakfast was the best we have had on island and service was awesome too and location is even better ! Will definitely be booking againg and recommending to friends and families. Faafetai Sheraton

To be completely fair, the location of the Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey's is absolutely stunning, the rooms are nice, and the food we ordered was great. However, our entire experience was completely ruined by the hostile environment and a total lack of oversight from the restaurant staff. I traveled all the way across the seas from the UK, expecting a premium, high class luxury experience. Instead a beautiful family memory was completely tarnished While my cousin and I were trying to take a photo to commemorate our dinner, a guest seated directly behind us deliberately disrupted it by making an inappropriate gesture at the camera (as seen in the photo I've attached) When you pay luxury resort prices, you expect a respectful, high end atmosphere. It is incredibly disappointing that the staff allowed this trashy behavior to happen right in the open without any intervention. The food and views mean nothing if the resort can't maintain a respectful comfortable environment for international guests Completely ruined what should have been a memorable evening.

From the moment we arrived, the staff was incredibly welcoming and accommodating, even offering complimentary welcome mocktails for the whole family, which was refreshing after a very long day of travelling. The cleaning staff was very helpful, most especially the lovely Eseta who was very attentive to us during the whole two weeks of our stay. She not only ensured that our room was clean and comfortable but she also offered advice on how and where to find traditional Samoan items that we were after. She was a lifesaver! She is no longer just one of the staff, but a respected family member. Thankyou for your service Eseta!
