Best stays in Samoa: where to sleep across Upolu and Savai'i
Samoa's accommodation runs the full spectrum — from US$30-a-night beach fales where you sleep open-air to the lagoon, through family-run boutique hotels in Apia, all the way to five-star resorts with overwater bungalows. Picking the right one depends entirely on what you're after: barefoot authenticity, restaurant variety, or a swim-up bar.
Best stays in Upolu, Samoa
Upolu is where most Samoa trips start. Faleolo International Airport, the capital Apia, and the bulk of the country's resort-tier accommodation all sit here. The south coast (Lalomanu, Lotofaga, Siumu) is the postcard side; the north has Apia and the working harbour.
Best resorts in Samoa
If you want pool, multiple restaurants, an actual spa and a structured kids' programme, you want a resort — and Samoa's resort tier is concentrated on Upolu's south coast plus a handful on Savai'i. Below are the published full-service properties across both islands.
Best beaches in Samoa
Samoa's beaches are the kind that consistently top "world's best" lists and somehow stay uncrowded. Most are on customary land — you'll pay a small village fee (typically WST 5–20) at the gate, which goes back into maintaining the site. Below: the ones our travellers come back about.

Food was subpar for the price point paid, which is higher than other hotels. Floor was sticky, shower head is dirty. With the above mentioned service, I am surprised people did not call out the flaws. I think maintenance was not done well. Staff was friendly, but did not plan the guest scheduling well. I think much improvement is required. I had paid for a late checkout, but that was not upheld, and I was disturbed at 3+pm, ahead of the 5pm late checkout. After calling back and letting the staff know we are fine with shifting, but compensation is expected, the staff went silent. We understand that there is a wedding ongoing on the previous day, but do consider leaving some excess capacity.

The location of this hotel is great.. Right on the waterfront with the main Apia township within walking distance... Our early morning arrival was met with problems... Being charged airport transfer fees (although it was included in our package)... no apologies given... and then our resort credit not being added correctly... I feel like the person checking us in was wanting us to be done quickly so they could tend to someone else who i felt was either a friend or someone they knew (whilst talking to them in Samoan and not paying particular attention to us) Our five night stay was marred by inconsistent service by the front desk team as well the room service team (who consistently told us that we had no credit available and we had to pay them in cash directly)... It wasn't until we had someone who could speak English at the front desk that then our booking was fixed up and we didn't have any further problems... I must say that all the staff we encountered at the restaurant for Breakfast and Dinner were fantastic.. sooooo full of charm and always serving with a smile... One of the biggest let-downs was also the room itself.. it looked like it had better days.. looked very rundown and tired. However the housekeeping team were awesome and always helpful with our requests for any items we needed during our stay... Will we be back? Yes.... But hopefully no problems arise with our next visit...

I stayed in the Sheraton for about five days. I traveled from out of country and there were a few things about the room that caught me a little off guard and were not explained at the front desk. Power outlets are different than American made products but thankfully there is a gift shop on the premises that sells adapters. However if you need and entirely new block you would have to travel to one of the several local stores to purchase one. There is also a conveniently placed ATM near the entrance to the lobby were you can withdraw local currency (Western Samoan Tala WST/ Approx 2.7 WST=1 USD at this time). The hotel staff are very helpful in showing you to your room, contacting taxi cabs or answering any questions you may have. Travelers should keep in mind that although many in Apia Samoa have a basic understanding of English it is not the language of the country. So if you are not a Samoan speaking person you will be able to manage but bear with the some of the staff. The hotel has a free continental breakfast and you can order various egg dishes and bacon at the counter. There is also a full time barista at the resturant. There are two pools on the property but sadly they close pretty early (7pm) wich was disappointing. There is also a Casino literally step from the front lobby wich seems to cater to tourists. The parking situation is a little difficult because it is just the space in front of the hotel so utilizing taxis might be preferable. But if not there is also a car rental service on the property near th e resturant and pool. All in all the stay was enjoyable and the staff was friendly and facilities were clean.

We had a wonderful time in Samoa. Visiting and touring this island was truly eye-opening. The Samoan people live a simple life, and their happiness and warmth really shine through—it made our trip even more special. We would especially like to thank Daniel, the Assistant Manager at the hotel, who went above and beyond to help us plan our stay and made sure everything ran smoothly. A big thank you as well to Chef Sukesh for preparing such a delicious Indian meal for us. He kindly accommodated my gluten-free dietary needs, which we really appreciated. The entire hotel staff were incredibly welcoming and made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. As a final touch, they even sang us a song at our departure, which was such a heartfelt and memorable experience. Thank you for taking such good care of us. Keep smiling—we will always remember our time here fondly. 🌺

If I could give half stars, this would be a solid 3.5. I also think if this was a Courtyard, or a Four Points I would rate it higher, but it's just not up to the normal Sheraton standard that you would expect. Good: The room was comfy, we were upgraded to a bungalow and it had a small seating area and a bath. The bed was comfy. The pool area is quite nice. Bad: The breakfast is all from tins/freezer, it is well below the standards of a Sheraton hotel. I do not understand why they have tinned pineapple instead of fresh. The staff are not actually very good or nice to you, for example; You collect your own pool towels and the security guard asks you to sign your room name - but they don't give you a pen to do this. The parking area is near the back of the hotel- many staff members are there on a break (which is not a problem) but they don't greet you, infact they look pretty miserable, even if you smile and wave - this is one of the main entrances and exits of the hotel if you drive. We asked for a 1pm checkout - which they said was ok. But at 11am they called the room and told me that checkout was now and made us feel that we needed to leave.
