Best stays in Samoa: where to sleep across Upolu and Savai'i
Samoa's accommodation runs the full spectrum — from US$30-a-night beach fales where you sleep open-air to the lagoon, through family-run boutique hotels in Apia, all the way to five-star resorts with overwater bungalows. Picking the right one depends entirely on what you're after: barefoot authenticity, restaurant variety, or a swim-up bar.
Best stays in Upolu, Samoa
Upolu is where most Samoa trips start. Faleolo International Airport, the capital Apia, and the bulk of the country's resort-tier accommodation all sit here. The south coast (Lalomanu, Lotofaga, Siumu) is the postcard side; the north has Apia and the working harbour.
Best resorts in Samoa
If you want pool, multiple restaurants, an actual spa and a structured kids' programme, you want a resort — and Samoa's resort tier is concentrated on Upolu's south coast plus a handful on Savai'i. Below are the published full-service properties across both islands.
Best beaches in Samoa
Samoa's beaches are the kind that consistently top "world's best" lists and somehow stay uncrowded. Most are on customary land — you'll pay a small village fee (typically WST 5–20) at the gate, which goes back into maintaining the site. Below: the ones our travellers come back about.

We attended for lunch. Good deal they had on - between 12pm- 2pm any of the main meals has $10 deducted. Food was good. Lady who served us was awesome. By the water too, so breeze was 🙌💯

We got a deluxe room for 4 of us. Initially when we arrived the shower floor was wet, and it smelled very smokey. They dont service the rooms daily even though you request for it, they only change your towels which I found weird. The room was overall satisfactory. It was good to finish our holiday here as it had free Wi-Fi. Boys didn't enjoy the pool though not as much as amanaki.. It did its job which was a suitable bed and shower for us. Breakfast is very simple aswel.

Rooms: My mum and I or when I travel with my son, we usually book a room here the night before we fly back. Let me tell you how heavy our luggage is sometimes and the staff willingly carry them up to our room without complaints. The security is so good especially when its only my son and I. I love how they just let me use their freezer especially for food items to take back with us. Thank you! Food & Drinks: So I usually dont eat pasta anywhere in Samoa (personal preference), but the pasta here at Hotel Millenia is so tasty, the portion sizes are huge (&im a big eater). Recommend this place to eat esp pasta lol. The view of the ocean is a lovely compliment. The night life, we come here often for “pre drinks” and I have no complaints, absolutely none. Lovely atmosphere, lovely service and the staff are always so welcoming. Faafetai tele lava guys.

We chose to leave a night earlier unfortunately. and stay somewhere else. As regular customers, sadly this Hotel has lost its good reputation it appears. Reading other reviews, we have also had problems with being booked in rooms we hadn't requested.? The room we finally requested appeared very unclean, the shower/toilet had a strong odor of stale urine. The air con was leaking and left a huge puddle on the floor, I called Reception to advise, in which they replied someone will come and check it, they never did. We had stayed that night without the air con on, incase it got worse. The noise of the music from the bar was so loud it even went beyond the time it was supposed to , people were shouting and yelling, we found it hard to rest or sleep. It felt like a Nite club. The pools were green with lots of algae, looked unsafe. These are some of the things we noted! Seems like they put more effort into running like a niteclub rather then focusing on customer service for customers staying there. Very sad to see. We will not be back.

Disappointing Experience – Would Not Recommend We had a very disappointing stay at this hotel. There were several serious issues that made our experience unpleasant and concerning. First and most alarming, we found rats in our room, and some jewellery went missing during our stay. There were also safety concerns in the pool, broken tiles, actually cut our children's feet, which is unacceptable. Cleanliness was clearly lacking. Even after the room was supposedly cleaned, there was visible dust under the bed, and the showers had mould and built-up grime. These are basic hygiene issues that should be addressed immediately. The front desk staff were hit or miss—some of the office desk ladies were not particularly friendly or welcoming, and we were made to feel like a burden when we asked for basic items like extra toilet paper and towels. It came across as stingy and unprofessional. On a positive note, the security guys was much more friendly and approachable, which we appreciated. Overall, this hotel fell far below expectations and basic standards. I hope management takes these issues seriously and makes the necessary improvements.
