Best stays in Samoa: where to sleep across Upolu and Savai'i
Samoa's accommodation runs the full spectrum — from US$30-a-night beach fales where you sleep open-air to the lagoon, through family-run boutique hotels in Apia, all the way to five-star resorts with overwater bungalows. Picking the right one depends entirely on what you're after: barefoot authenticity, restaurant variety, or a swim-up bar.
Best stays in Upolu, Samoa
Upolu is where most Samoa trips start. Faleolo International Airport, the capital Apia, and the bulk of the country's resort-tier accommodation all sit here. The south coast (Lalomanu, Lotofaga, Siumu) is the postcard side; the north has Apia and the working harbour.
Best resorts in Samoa
If you want pool, multiple restaurants, an actual spa and a structured kids' programme, you want a resort — and Samoa's resort tier is concentrated on Upolu's south coast plus a handful on Savai'i. Below are the published full-service properties across both islands.
Best beaches in Samoa
Samoa's beaches are the kind that consistently top "world's best" lists and somehow stay uncrowded. Most are on customary land — you'll pay a small village fee (typically WST 5–20) at the gate, which goes back into maintaining the site. Below: the ones our travellers come back about.

Spent a night here due to plane breakdown. Mandy gave us a great welcome late at night and the team managed to feed everyone at short notice. Very pleasant stay. Close to central Apia.

Absolutely amazing place to stay! Great location a 5 min walk to the main town area. Staff are friendly and the views are breathtaking. Clean rooms, great bar and restaurant, great side walk as well in the front of the hotel. The pool was lovely

Mandy and all the staff are very professional and helpful. The only issue we have is the place. It is so outdated (broken leg on beds, needs new monitors and microwaves. Also I almost fell off the toilet. lol. Not secured and bolts are loose. Other than that everything is doing great. Just want to give a big shout out to Mandy and all the staff for there hardworking and good communication skills.

Mandy at the service desk was so helpful, we stayed here for 3 nights in a great size room, very clean the staff members are all so lovely. Unfortunately we stayed here with full of rude and disrespectful Chinese people, they just coughed and spit everywhere, the dirtiest 🤮

This is a nice hotel with a very good price. The rooms are large and comfortable, with AC that works well. The restaurant and bar have decent food, and there are several other eateries within walking distance for a change-up. Sea view is available on higher levels. The staff are very friendly, and everyone makes you feel welcome. Pickup from the airport is available. Parking is easy for a rental car. The internet is sometimes a little shaky, so if you are in for business be prepared for some difficulty, but when you are on, it is fast enough. The prepaid cards are hard to get the full worth, as you can't log out easily. Not exactly the hotel's fault, though.
