Best stays in Samoa: where to sleep across Upolu and Savai'i
Samoa's accommodation runs the full spectrum — from US$30-a-night beach fales where you sleep open-air to the lagoon, through family-run boutique hotels in Apia, all the way to five-star resorts with overwater bungalows. Picking the right one depends entirely on what you're after: barefoot authenticity, restaurant variety, or a swim-up bar.
Best stays in Upolu, Samoa
Upolu is where most Samoa trips start. Faleolo International Airport, the capital Apia, and the bulk of the country's resort-tier accommodation all sit here. The south coast (Lalomanu, Lotofaga, Siumu) is the postcard side; the north has Apia and the working harbour.
Best beaches in Samoa
Samoa's beaches are the kind that consistently top "world's best" lists and somehow stay uncrowded. Most are on customary land — you'll pay a small village fee (typically WST 5–20) at the gate, which goes back into maintaining the site. Below: the ones our travellers come back about.

Amazing view from the giungle on the ocean. Located 20 min by car from Apia, but really good if you want discover all the Island. You need to rent a car before. The room was clean, with fridge and basic things that you need. Staff is really friendly and helpful.

Quiet, simple and cosy place with an amazing view. Perfect for birdwatching. The host Lolita is very nice and caring. Woke up to welcome us and say goodbye to make sure everything went smooth with our very early flights. A free shuttle is leaving the lodge at 8:30am to town and comes back everyday at 3:30pm, which I find wonderful.

First time visitor to Samoa, then Dave Parker Eco Lodge is the best place to stay! It's on a beautiful location just outside Apia. It has an amazing lookout over Apia and the ocean! Imagine having diner (or a coffee) on a big veranda with such a great view! Or just sitting in front of your room on the veranda enjoying the sights and sounds. The gardens around the hotel are well maintained just like the hotel itself. Rooms are clean, food is good. Lolita and her team are working hard to give you a great stay and make you feel at home. With her reccomendations I've seen a lot of Samoa and learned a lot of the history and culture. And I have a lot of reasons to come back to Samoa.

We traveled around Samoa and stayed at 5 different hotels. No one could compare to David Parker Ego lodge, neither in terms of cleanliness, location, or service. There was a unique atmosphere there that you rarely get to experience. For me, who arrived by sea, it was a true releif to get a little higher up the mountain side where it felt cooler, away from the hustle and bustle, close to nature. We swam in a lovely cool waterfall that was located just below the hotel. The hotel's two lovely dogs showed us the way. It was incredibly nice. Each room had a balcony with the most beautiful view over a lush valley, and out to the sea. The rooms were simply furnished. No one can compare to Lolita who runs the place. She is amazing. We felt really well looked after. She took great care of all the guests, each and every one. Loving and kind. We quickly felt at home, and chose to come back here many times during our stay, to treat ourselves to that little extra. They serve good food on the shared terrace, with the most beautiful view from morning to evening. In the evenings we could hear the geckos and crickets, and admire the fruit bats down in the valley as darkness took over the landscape. And it was absolutely fantastic to start the day there, with a good cup of coffee/tea and optional breakfast, while looking out over the valley waking up. The birds swayed on the balcony down there and it felt like flying with them. Very calming. It was optional to have the food served in the room or on the terrace, and we chose the chared terrace every time. Quiet and pleasant atmosphere. On the area there was a sweet bird that looked like a Kiwi bird walking around on an extremely well-kept property. I thought there must be a lot of gardeners working here, but I never saw them. Eggs, pancakes or smoothie for breakfast, all with home-grown fruit. We were allowed to help prepare Sunday lunch if we wanted, prepared in a truly authentic Samoan way. Incredibly good. All the staff were very nice.
