Best stays in Samoa: where to sleep across Upolu and Savai'i
Samoa's accommodation runs the full spectrum — from US$30-a-night beach fales where you sleep open-air to the lagoon, through family-run boutique hotels in Apia, all the way to five-star resorts with overwater bungalows. Picking the right one depends entirely on what you're after: barefoot authenticity, restaurant variety, or a swim-up bar.
Best stays in Upolu, Samoa
Upolu is where most Samoa trips start. Faleolo International Airport, the capital Apia, and the bulk of the country's resort-tier accommodation all sit here. The south coast (Lalomanu, Lotofaga, Siumu) is the postcard side; the north has Apia and the working harbour.
Best resorts in Samoa
If you want pool, multiple restaurants, an actual spa and a structured kids' programme, you want a resort — and Samoa's resort tier is concentrated on Upolu's south coast plus a handful on Savai'i. Below are the published full-service properties across both islands.
Best beaches in Samoa
Samoa's beaches are the kind that consistently top "world's best" lists and somehow stay uncrowded. Most are on customary land — you'll pay a small village fee (typically WST 5–20) at the gate, which goes back into maintaining the site. Below: the ones our travellers come back about.

TThe lady that greeted us was super friendly and very kind. This was our stay on Dec 26 - Dec 28 2023. Accommodation was average but not great! Disappointing and dishonest service as we have never received our refund that was promised to us on January 12 2024. Never received any response back. Will never again!

First of all, it is not a hotel, it is a house where the owners also live, everything was very dirty, full of giant cockroaches everywhere, sheets with stains and hair, there is no hot water...horrible

The self contained units best for a couple or family of 4. Air conditioning works wonders from a busy day out in the sun. Nice modern good size bathrooms. Check out the beautiful Fale Samoa and enjoy the gentle breeze. Plenty parking at the back. Safe and secure. Local shop 2mins walk. Owner lives on the property.

Booked online last-minute. Was given a certain date to get a refund(I think that's awesome) a little over $500 for 7 days, Room was affordable, Definately 5/5, clean, friendly host, room satisfactory, perfect location. Was offered a bigger room but I was already settled into the one I was in. I was happy I was given that option. Came with queen bed, own bathroom mini fridge and was still able to store food in main fridge on premises, air con, wifi. Nice and quiet. I really needed the rest, I had the best sleeps, the bed was so comfy, so this was perfect. Thankyou and all the best for 2024. I'll definitely be back 🫶🏼 hospitality 5/5

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights. The lady we met was really lovely, and the room, although small, had everything we needed, especially air conditioning, which is a must. The location was great, close to the town.
