Sina PJ Beach Fales and Surf
About this property
Sina PJ Beach Fales is a family-run cultural-immersion stay on Upolu's south coast at Tafitoala. The defining feature is the family itself — guests routinely describe being made to feel "part of the family" rather than treated as a customer. Beyond the beach-fale basics — clean fales with electricity, mosquito nets, and plug sockets — the stay actively offers traditional skill-sharing: learning to weave baskets, scraping coconut cream, planting taro, watching an umu being prepared. Several reviewers have brought their own spear-fished catch back for the family to cook. The beach itself is lagoon-style rather than wide white sand, but the snorkel locations nearby are excellent — roughly an hour to the ocean trench, half an hour to the giant clams. Surfboards can be borrowed on-site for the nearby breaks. A hire car is recommended; the property is well off the main bus routes. Meals: rates include breakfast and dinner — the Expedia listing shows the Standard Double (Sea View) as dinner-inclusive.

Best stays in Samoa: where to sleep across Upolu and Savai'i
Samoa's accommodation runs the full spectrum — from US$30-a-night beach fales where you sleep open-air to the lagoon, through family-run boutique hotels in Apia, all the way to five-star resorts with overwater bungalows. Picking the right one depends entirely on what you're after: barefoot authenticity, restaurant variety, or a swim-up bar.
Best stays in Upolu, Samoa
Upolu is where most Samoa trips start. Faleolo International Airport, the capital Apia, and the bulk of the country's resort-tier accommodation all sit here. The south coast (Lalomanu, Lotofaga, Siumu) is the postcard side; the north has Apia and the working harbour.
Best beaches in Samoa
Samoa's beaches are the kind that consistently top "world's best" lists and somehow stay uncrowded. Most are on customary land — you'll pay a small village fee (typically WST 5–20) at the gate, which goes back into maintaining the site. Below: the ones our travellers come back about.

If you're looking for a place besides the touristy resorts this is the place to go. This Resort is Family owned and you can expirience true Samoan Culture at the same time. Of course everything is a bit more basic but the Service is still good I even had once a free lift to the Market. The Location is great 1h to the trench and 30min to the Clams. The Fales are clean and on sunny days you can sit at the Verandah. On the Island they manage the time diffrent than I'm use to in my Country. Simetimes I was confused when a activity starts. I can truely recommend this place! thank you so much Sina, PJ and Family hopefully another time again!

I'd give six stars for both the wonderfully friendly and accommodating hosts (everyone was fantastic) and the amazing food. Only a short two-night stay but had a fantastic time - I've no doubt about the other reviews who've stayed longer. Really felt a home away from home. Fales are being upgraded to small cabins, very comfortable with a nice small balcony to sit and watch the waves, lovely spot to have breakfast. Power wasn't currently available but is being added, power was freely available in the main fale anyway. Nothing that having a power bank didn't solve. Toilet facilities did need some improvement but that didn't take away at all from the amazing time I had. Would definitely stay there again.

Excellent stay. Amazing family make you feel like part of the family. Big generous meals and lots of fresh fruit on offer. I speared some fish and they cooked it up into some delicious meals with freshly made coconut cream which I helped make. Free Coconuts, and electricity is fales is a bonus which others don’t normally have! Not on a picturesque sandy beach but it’s still a beautiful lagoon! Highly recommend for a traditional experience. Good rates, just drive to them and they will accommodate you.

If you’re looking for a traditional Samoan experience, THIS is the place to stay!! The entire family is kind, helpful and always happy. We stayed 1 week and really got to experience the local life - we learned how to make an umu, weave baskets, scrape and make coconut cream, how to plant Taro and so much more. We felt really safe and the food was amazing. The bathrooms needed a bit more attention but overall we had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend for anyone looking for an epic experience. Great snorkelling, surfing and spear fishing opportunities.

Reviews are justified. If you are looking to experience the Samoan way and the generosity of Samoans, I would stay here. The family are so nice and friendly and accommodating. Generous portions of food, you can see authentic Samoan cooking, plenty of coconuts to be had. The falaes are comfy, with plug sockets, a light, mosquito nets, you will hear the waves crashing. You can also borrow the surfboards if you fancy a surf. I would advise renting a car before hand or some kind of transport if you do plan to travel around the island as the family only have a small motorbike to lend. I would much rather stay here than the Coconuts Beach resort down the road and support Samoan families. The family have rebuilt after the 2009 tsunami, so put your money towards genuine people rather than rich resort owners!
