During our week stay in Fiji, my family and I would express daily how wonderful our experience was going during our stay. The staff at Doubletree were so welcoming and warm. We felt at home and some of the staff treated us like family. Our kids looked forward to seeing some of the exceptional staff that would dote on them. One of the many reasons for selecting this resort was the reviews on the food. Let me tell you, our family is very particular when it comes to the quality of the food that we eat and it exceeded our expectations. It was one of the many highlights during the stay and we enjoyed the incredible selection and themed buffets. The food was great and the quality was amazing. The kids enjoyed the kids club and would ask to attend daily even if we had planned excursions outside of the resort for that day. They did not want to leave the resort and wanted to stay on grounds. Doubletree has many of their own excursions that they offer so you have lots of options on activities. They also have good live music at night. There are so many reasons that we recommend this resort. Above all, the extraordinary staff, the delicious food, the activities offered and the cleanliness. The grounds of the resort are beautiful and well maintained. It is also about 30 minutes away from the airport. When our family can go back to Fiji, we will definitely stay at this resort.

The place was so awesome. The resort pool was really open with a view of the ocean. And the staff was kind. It also very kid friendly with kids activities. Just walking to my room was great. It was pretty cool going on a small boat to the island resort.

Overall, we had a great experience as our room was a Bure style and it was wonderful. The only issue with the room itself was mini ants that were taking up residence on the cabinet tops. I cleaned off the tops and then there were no more ants. The views were amazing from the room's balcony. The staff were amazing here and I felt that some of the food was good but the other items in the food area could have used some work. Overall, still a good experience.

We had a constant stream of problems during our stay with the Double Tree. The room was not as nice as we expected and the pictures don't capture how dark and dingy the room feels. The curtains had holes from moths and some of the lights were burned out in the main room so it felt like a dark cave. We found a dead cockroach in the main room on the first night that was not cleaned up for 2 days. A second roach showed up in the bathroom the next day, but it was cleaned up the same day. The shower was fantastic and lived up to the pictures. We consistently had some kind of issue with something on the resort though. The towels for the shower was the most frequent issue. We hung our towels up to dry with the intention of reusing them, because we didn't know if we would get any replacements, but they kept getting taken by the cleaning staff and not replaced. We had to request fresh towels from the front desk a couple of time. A couple of days we had to air dry ourselves after showers because we would get home from excursions, need to shower, and have no towels... From the first night the front desk staff was frequently rude to us and often didn't return our “Bula's”. We tried to be friendly and build some relationships but we eventually just gave up and would just live with the frequent problems because they would be such grumps towards us. We often felt unwelcome and heard similar feelings from some of the other guests. Most of the service staff was friendly and got to know us fast because we ordered lots of drinks and food next to the pools and gave them big tips. We had two waiters that always remembered our names and would wave at us from across the pool to make sure we didn't need anything. He was fantastic and tried to make us feel welcome! The breakfast was pretty good but the dinners were often not worth the money. However, the grill is TOTALLY worth the price!!! My wife and I ate there a couple of times because it was so fantastic! It always felt like they were trying to bleed all the money out of you that they could. Everything had an additional charge attached, from the WiFi to water bottles, and pool Towels, they were doing their best to bleed as much out of your wallet as they could get away with. This was the infrastructure of a 4 star resort with the customer experience of a 2 star. We will not be going back to this resort!

We all came back feeling so refreshed — this trip was exactly what we needed as a family. There's plenty to keep you busy without ever leaving the resort; we even booked a babysitter and had an amazing dinner at the private cabanas- just make sure you book ahead. And honestly, the massage I had there? One of the best I've ever had. One person who really made our trip special was Samuela from the horse stables. He was absolutely wonderful with our one-year-old, getting him all excited around the horses and even letting him try fresh coconut water straight from the tree — a first for our little one! One thing to know before you go — the resort is a bit out of the way, so we'd really suggest hiring a rental car. It makes such a difference being able to explore at your own pace and see the real Fiji rather than just the tourist spots. Speaking of which, Denarau is lovely but very touristy, so don't skip the island trips. Just head over to Port Denarau and choose which island takes your fancy. We also had a brilliant dinner at Indigo Restaurant in Port Denarau — highly recommend it. And for families travelling with little ones like us, South Seas Island was a perfect choice. We booked through GetYourGuide which worked out much cheaper, so definitely worth checking out.
