Best stays in Samoa: where to sleep across Upolu and Savai'i
Samoa's accommodation runs the full spectrum — from US$30-a-night beach fales where you sleep open-air to the lagoon, through family-run boutique hotels in Apia, all the way to five-star resorts with overwater bungalows. Picking the right one depends entirely on what you're after: barefoot authenticity, restaurant variety, or a swim-up bar.
Best stays in Upolu, Samoa
Upolu is where most Samoa trips start. Faleolo International Airport, the capital Apia, and the bulk of the country's resort-tier accommodation all sit here. The south coast (Lalomanu, Lotofaga, Siumu) is the postcard side; the north has Apia and the working harbour.
Best resorts in Samoa
If you want pool, multiple restaurants, an actual spa and a structured kids' programme, you want a resort — and Samoa's resort tier is concentrated on Upolu's south coast plus a handful on Savai'i. Below are the published full-service properties across both islands.
Best beaches in Samoa
Samoa's beaches are the kind that consistently top "world's best" lists and somehow stay uncrowded. Most are on customary land — you'll pay a small village fee (typically WST 5–20) at the gate, which goes back into maintaining the site. Below: the ones our travellers come back about.

Review of Le Alaimoana February 24th I had an extremely disappointing experience staying at Le Alaimoana on the 24th of feburary. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly and offered an upgrade, which we appreciated. However, the positive experience ended there. After being shown to our room, we were shocked by the unpleasant conditions. Within just two hours of being there, we noticed a musty smell that lingered throughout the room. The sheets and pillows had an old, stale odor, and opening the fridge revealed an overpowering, foul smell of fish. As we settled in, we were also greeted by ants and began feeling flea bites. To top it off, when we turned on the bathroom light, there was an incredibly loud, disruptive noise coming from the fixture. On the kitchen bench, there was visible mess left behind from previous guests. It was clear that the room had not been properly cleaned or maintained. We attempted to contact the owner, but unfortunately, they were unavailable. Given the disgusting state of the room and the unbearable smell, we decided to leave that night. We were informed that we'd receive a full refund through Expedia, but this turned out to be a lie. The owner had already taken the money from Expedia, and despite multiple attempts to reach out to her for a resolution, we received no response. This experience was a complete nightmare, and I would strongly advise anyone considering staying here to look elsewhere. The property is misrepresented as a 3-star accommodation but, in reality, it should only be rated as a 1-star at best. The lack of cleanliness, poor maintenance, and dishonest management made for an unpleasant and frustrating stay. Avoid at all costs!

Nice place that’s tucked away. Helped us with a late check in since our plane landed late. Great complimentary breakfast. Dinner that was ordered here was always good. A plus is they always had a mosquito coil lit at night during dinner time so you wouldn’t get bitten. Room was nice. Very very close to town. Laundry services were available for a reasonable cost. Pool was great to use. Staff were helpful and friendly.

The staff did a fantastic job! The only complaint that we had was that we didn't get the room that was advertised (they said their website was out of date and so instead of getting the room size we had planned on we got a standard room). Pros: Price is excellent Location is very convenient Free daily Continental breakfast Swimming pool Air conditioning Friendly staff Cons: Ensure you confirm with the hotel what you are getting Our stay there was great, and we loved the people who helped us. I would recommend this place!

The room was clean and the bed comfortable. A bit far from the centre, no real place to eat around, so it help if you are motorized. Parking available. Quiet most nights but the rooms are not soundproof and they all face the reception/bar/pool area, so if, like it happened on my last night, you have a loud group of young Americans coming and want to party and laugh late at night, they might as well be on your room. You will not sleep. Breakfast is extremely basic: toast (1 or 1.5 or 2 depends on the day) and 2 eggs, with a jar of weetabix to help yourself and instant coffee. Staff is trying their best to help you though. You have to pay for the wifi, I did not try it.
