Best stays in Samoa: where to sleep across Upolu and Savai'i
Samoa's accommodation runs the full spectrum — from US$30-a-night beach fales where you sleep open-air to the lagoon, through family-run boutique hotels in Apia, all the way to five-star resorts with overwater bungalows. Picking the right one depends entirely on what you're after: barefoot authenticity, restaurant variety, or a swim-up bar.
Best stays in Upolu, Samoa
Upolu is where most Samoa trips start. Faleolo International Airport, the capital Apia, and the bulk of the country's resort-tier accommodation all sit here. The south coast (Lalomanu, Lotofaga, Siumu) is the postcard side; the north has Apia and the working harbour.
Best resorts in Samoa
If you want pool, multiple restaurants, an actual spa and a structured kids' programme, you want a resort — and Samoa's resort tier is concentrated on Upolu's south coast plus a handful on Savai'i. Below are the published full-service properties across both islands.
Best beaches in Samoa
Samoa's beaches are the kind that consistently top "world's best" lists and somehow stay uncrowded. Most are on customary land — you'll pay a small village fee (typically WST 5–20) at the gate, which goes back into maintaining the site. Below: the ones our travellers come back about.

Our stay at Taumeasina Island Resort was nothing short of unforgettable. The resort itself is absolutely breathtaking — beautifully maintained, peaceful, and set in one of the most stunning and serene locations imaginable. The remote island setting creates the perfect balance of privacy and beauty. Waking up to the sound of the ocean and ending each evening with those incredible Samoan sunsets felt surreal. The food was consistently delicious every single day — fresh, flavorful, and something we genuinely looked forward to at every meal. But what truly made our stay exceptional was the staff. Every team member was warm, welcoming, smiling, and attentive. They didn’t just provide excellent service — they made us feel at home. A very special thank you to Atafu and VAsi, who went above and beyond to make our stay personal and meaningful. Their kindness and genuine hospitality meant so much to us. We also want to sincerely thank you for allowing us to fish on your beautiful property. We had so much fun enjoying the water each morning and evening — it was such a special part of our trip and created memories we’ll always treasure. We will absolutely be visiting Samoa again — and Taumeasina is the ONLY place we can imagine staying. Fa’afetai tele lava for an extraordinary experience. 🌺

I actually couldn’t fault this place during my stay. The rooms were clean! Plenty of room for myself and the bathroom was spectacular! There are many amenities available here. There were a variety to choose from at The breakfast buffet. And the staff were amazing. Not exactly cheap but if you have the money to book here I would highly recommend.

Stayed for 2weeks and LOVED every minute!!! Buffet Breakfasts were fantastic and the staff (particularly a man named Pesemina) was amazing!!! His attentiveness and friendly nature was very welcoming, and played a big part in why I scored the resort highly. Rooms are beautiful and spacious, with breathtaking views. The resorts facilities are well maintained and clean. Location is also great as it is not far from town, but is quite far from the airport (about 45mins-1hr). Will be returning next year for a wedding and can't wait to go back.

Taumeasina is not only breathtakingly beautiful but the service and standard here are equally exceptional. Staff are extremely friendly and accommodate to any of your needs. Food is deliciously authentic to island cuisine and style. There are also great cultural activities you can do here while you relax. If you're looking to stay anywhere in samoa you should absolutely try it here first 💯🇼🇸🥰

Cool place with stunning ocean views I really don’t know why some people rate this place not good - it’s a paradise. Interior is bright, views from rooms are picturesque, restaurant and bar serve good food and tasty cocktails. Daily activities program is diverse - staff provides different options to spend time depending on weather conditions. ROOMS: spacious and bright. There is a comfortable bed, good A/C, fridge, locker, working desk. Bathroom is big, the is a shower, hair and body care stuff, vanity kit, bathrobes are provided as well. FACILITIES: wi-fi, transfer to/from the airport, outdoor pool, SPA, gym, restaurant, two bars (lobby bar and sunset view), room service 24h, ATM on site, souvenirs and clothes shop, conference hall. Here you can book different excursions or participate in daily activities program, evening shows and life music take place in the bar area every evening. FOOD: DINNER is rather good - there is a various menu, everyone will definitely find something for them. There are buffet or a-la carte option available. In the menu there are starters, salads, soups, main dishes and desserts available to order. For mains you can choose either different continental dishes, either grill menu (rib eye steak is presented in the list) or pizzas and pastas. BREAKFAST could be better: there is a buffet with basic ingredients, of course you can find smth for you but you want to enjoy the meal during your stay not just consume the calories. BEACH: small beach with sunbeds, snorkeling is popular among guests. LOCATION: 45min drive from the airport, 2min walking distance to the beach from the reception area. STAFF: friendly and smiley, very polite.
