Best stays in Samoa: where to sleep across Upolu and Savai'i
Samoa's accommodation runs the full spectrum — from US$30-a-night beach fales where you sleep open-air to the lagoon, through family-run boutique hotels in Apia, all the way to five-star resorts with overwater bungalows. Picking the right one depends entirely on what you're after: barefoot authenticity, restaurant variety, or a swim-up bar.
Best stays in Upolu, Samoa
Upolu is where most Samoa trips start. Faleolo International Airport, the capital Apia, and the bulk of the country's resort-tier accommodation all sit here. The south coast (Lalomanu, Lotofaga, Siumu) is the postcard side; the north has Apia and the working harbour.
Best resorts in Samoa
If you want pool, multiple restaurants, an actual spa and a structured kids' programme, you want a resort — and Samoa's resort tier is concentrated on Upolu's south coast plus a handful on Savai'i. Below are the published full-service properties across both islands.
Best beaches in Samoa
Samoa's beaches are the kind that consistently top "world's best" lists and somehow stay uncrowded. Most are on customary land — you'll pay a small village fee (typically WST 5–20) at the gate, which goes back into maintaining the site. Below: the ones our travellers come back about.

Early March of this year we spent three wonderful days at Samoan Outrigger. I must say, the service was amazing!. All the lovely staff were approachable, friendly and kind. One time we arrived for our breakfast in the last minute. They were very accommodating and gave my husband and I breakfast, when we asked if we could still have it. Over the weekend it was raining very hard and we didnt have an umbrella. The wonderful lady at reception gave us one to use for the day. If you enjoy a quiet location, this is the place. Faafetai, faafetai lava to the wonderful staff at Samoan Outrigger for a memorable experience. We are truly grateful.

A home away from home! My wife and I were so impressed at the professional way this hotel is run but with the perfect balance of a relaxed feel and personal staff. The breakfast was different each day, very filling and healthy. The rooms are comfortable and cleaned immaculately every day. The staff are available at all times of the day and night to help and genuinely want to help in any way- they are the reason it feels like home. Cant wait to return again one day to be spoiled the way we were. Thanks for the stay!

Wish i found this place sooner. Budget friendly, rooms are average but clean. Great and fiendly staff and you get a damn good breakfast. A gym right across the street and some decent reataurant and minimart near by. Wifi is bad in your room so you have to go to the reception area or breakfast area for great signal. Samoa in general has terrible internet I suggest just buying a sim card and using that. A short taxi ride and you are downtown. Nice little pool area. Just a very quaint place. Laudry(a duffle bag size) was $20 WST each for wash and dry.

I had a great time staying at the Outrigger Samoa for 3.5 weeks during my travels to Samoa. The service by the staff was incredible - the girls are so lovely, very friendly, they remember your name, the food you like or don't like at breakfast, and continually ask how they can assist you during your stay in Samoa. The rooms are cleaned well each day, have a comfy bed and a good air-conditioner - sometimes, the shower is a little on the cold side, but that's just Samoa life! I felt very safe, comfortable and looked after during my stay here. The location is great - super close to 3 x shops (particularly Lynns, with good selection of fruit, vegetables, and meats), 2 x taxi stands and a range of delicious restaurants in walking distance. There is a great little gym across the road which offers casual prices for classes too. The motel also offers car hires, which was easy to organise and the car was great travelling all around the island for a decent local price. The communal breakfast and kitchen area was great for meeting others who were coming to visit Samoa too. I would definitely recommend the stay to others. Fa'afetai tele lava Outrigger for a wonderful stay!

I had a fantastic week at the Outrigger, using it as my base while I explored Upolu. The hotel itself is a lovely old tastefully decorated colonial building. There are a mix of rooms, I chose one with an en suite, but there are cheaper options for shared bathrooms too. The absolute best thing about the place are the lovely staff - genuinely kind, thoughtful, friendly and helpful, who couldn’t do enough to make my stay an enjoyable one. I spent many an afternoon and evening chatting to them and learning more about Apia, Samoa and this wonderful small nation. The location, while not in the town centre, is only a 10 minute walk, and it is in a fantastic spot if you have a car, with easy access to all key roads, and a supermarket and gym directly across the street. The breakfasts are also excellent, changing every day, from pancakes and seasonal fruits, to local cocoa porridge, to hash browns and sausages. Having the pool available for humid Samoan days was also a blessing. I couldn’t recommend the Outrigger highly enough.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Outrigger Hotel. The staff is incredibly helpful and the most amazing people you can wish for - very friendly, knowledgable and professional at all times. The hotel is a beautiful building that feels a bit colonial style with a cozy lobby and shared bathrooms that are very well maintained. There is a beautiful garden and a crystal clear pool as well. Breakfast was a bit different every day, always tasty and also quite healthy for Samoa. We really appreciated that we could check-in early after our plane had arrived in the very early morning and also that we could store our suitcase for a few days at the hotel. There was also the option to do laundry at the Outrigger which came in handy for us. The highlight of our stay were all the very friendly ladies at the reception and at breakfast. Thank you for your hospitality!
