Best stays in Samoa: where to sleep across Upolu and Savai'i
Samoa's accommodation runs the full spectrum — from US$30-a-night beach fales where you sleep open-air to the lagoon, through family-run boutique hotels in Apia, all the way to five-star resorts with overwater bungalows. Picking the right one depends entirely on what you're after: barefoot authenticity, restaurant variety, or a swim-up bar.
Best stays in Upolu, Samoa
Upolu is where most Samoa trips start. Faleolo International Airport, the capital Apia, and the bulk of the country's resort-tier accommodation all sit here. The south coast (Lalomanu, Lotofaga, Siumu) is the postcard side; the north has Apia and the working harbour.
Best resorts in Samoa
If you want pool, multiple restaurants, an actual spa and a structured kids' programme, you want a resort — and Samoa's resort tier is concentrated on Upolu's south coast plus a handful on Savai'i. Below are the published full-service properties across both islands.
Best beaches in Samoa
Samoa's beaches are the kind that consistently top "world's best" lists and somehow stay uncrowded. Most are on customary land — you'll pay a small village fee (typically WST 5–20) at the gate, which goes back into maintaining the site. Below: the ones our travellers come back about.

Great hotel in Apia! We had the 2 bedroom suite and it was surprisingly very roomy. It was quiet and felt safe with security during the evening. I would highly recommend. If you plan on getting a car rental, they are same ownership as Samoana Car Rentals.Free parking. Near stores for quick things to pick-up in walking distance. Roughly 5 mins to Apia downtown area. Friendly staff. Easy check-in process and flexible.

Clean, quiet, and conveniently located—ideal for families and solo travelers. Close to town yet a peaceful retreat. Car rental is right next door (Taumeasina Rentals) - RAV4 for $130 per day. We used this hotel as our base while exploring the island and returned here to relax and reset. We would definitely book again if we return to Samoa for another holiday.

Wow! We (family of 4) absolutely loved our time at Samoana. We stayed there for 8 nights. Our room was spacious, fresh, clean with a great bathroom and large shower. The kitchenette was equipped with everything we needed daily. The swimming pools (deep & shallow) were an added bonus & we swam in them daily. Lolo and her staff were superb. We saw the same staff around daily - they always greeted us with a smile and warm greetings. The facilities were maintained daily and we could see the pride in the staff. We hope to visit Samoana again. Thank you for an amazing stay!!

3 stars for good rooms. The place fits to those not needing any services, say have car and local sim. Should call itself motel. For a tourist arriving by late Fiji flights, demand a blanket, or you will be hot without aircon, or cold with. Do not let them give you room next to cars, you probably wish to sleep in the morning, be aware, no wifi. They claim central location, bit of stretch, 2km walk that is. There is cafe on site, beware using CC, the vendor shows US Anchorage, my card got terminated.

This is not for the accommodation but the food needs improvement. They took 40mins for the fish chips but when it came, fish n chips were almost cold. Not sure why it wasn’t coming out hot and crunchy when we waited so long. Meat burgers more sausage than meat. Service was good but improvement on food.

We stayed as a family at Samoana for 2 weeks and it was the best decision we ever made, the location, the rooms are so clean, easy access to the city and everything, the staff are so helpful even the security. Highly recommend. Will definitely staying there again. The only thing that needs to be fixed is the fan control, when needs to put it in medium it stops and the dining chairs needs to be replaced apart from that everything was good. Faafetai
