Falealupo Beach Fales
About this property
Falealupo Beach Fales offers traditional beach fale accommodation on the beautiful western coast of Savai'i, Samoa. This is where the land ends and the Pacific begins — peaceful beaches, ocean views, and unforgettable sunsets in one of Samoa's most beautiful locations. Unplug, unwind, and let nature do the rest — the gentle sea breeze, crystal-clear ocean waters, swaying palm trees, magical sunsets over the beach, and nights beneath a sky filled with countless stars. A family-run accommodation offering a genuine Samoan beach experience. The fales are traditional — open to the ocean breeze and surrounded by nature. Air conditioning is provided by the Pacific trade winds. Beds are clean and comfortable but simple — usually a sponge mattress and sheet, just as many island homes have used for years. Pricing is per person, full board: WST 100 per adult per night, WST 75 per child aged 4–10, free for children 3 and under. Breakfast and dinner are included. The displayed nightly rate is for 2 adults sharing one fale. If you're looking for five-star luxury this isn't the right place. If you're looking for peaceful beaches, incredible sunsets, and the chance to experience Samoa in a relaxed and authentic way, you'll love it here.

Best stays in Samoa: where to sleep across Upolu and Savai'i
Samoa's accommodation runs the full spectrum — from US$30-a-night beach fales where you sleep open-air to the lagoon, through family-run boutique hotels in Apia, all the way to five-star resorts with overwater bungalows. Picking the right one depends entirely on what you're after: barefoot authenticity, restaurant variety, or a swim-up bar.
Best stays in Savai'i, Samoa
Savai'i is the second-largest island in Polynesia and Samoa's quiet half — most travellers spend two or three nights here on a Samoa trip. Accommodation is mostly family-run: traditional beach fales along the coast, a handful of mid-range resorts, and a few eco-lodges set back from the road.
Best beach fales in Samoa: traditional open-air stays
The beach fale (pronounced FAH-leh) is Samoa's signature stay — a traditional thatched-roof hut, open to the ocean breeze, on the sand. You sleep on a mattress with a mosquito net, the family runs the kitchen, and dinner is whatever was caught that day. It's the cheapest and most authentic way to stay in Samoa.
Best beaches in Samoa
Samoa's beaches are the kind that consistently top "world's best" lists and somehow stay uncrowded. Most are on customary land — you'll pay a small village fee (typically WST 5–20) at the gate, which goes back into maintaining the site. Below: the ones our travellers come back about.

Pros: Beautiful beach views. You can roll straight out of bed onto the sand. The staff member who cooked meals was helpful, and they provided us with fresh coconuts and oranges when we didn't feel safe eating the prepared food. Cons: Everything Else. Our party of five (three adults, two teens) was recovering from a stomach bug, so I specifically called ahead and spoke to Leone to book two fales and a private unit with its own toilet and shower. The Bait-and-Switch: Upon arrival, a man collected our cash (and never provided the promised receipt). He then informed us the private unit we paid for had been given to another family. Appalling Room Conditions: The alternative standalone unit they offered was unlivable. The wallboards were rotting and wet, the floor and bed were filthy, the kitchen sink was rusty, and the taps were broken off the bench. You could smell the beddings from the bedroom door. To top it off, there was no power or running water to the unit. I asked for a refund on that room and crammed into a fale with my sister. Hygiene Issues: The beddings and floor mattresses in the fales smelled that we were too scared to use them, opting to cover everything with our own lavalavas. Mosquitoes and ants were a constant battle in my sister's fale. Infrastructure Failure: The power was out until 11 PM. There was no way to charge phones securely, and it took nearly an hour to boil water for noodles in the communal area until the cook kindly offered to use an open fire. Broken Amenities: When a mini-storm hit at midnight, we tried to lower the Samoan blinds to keep the rain out, but the ropes were old, broken, and completely rotted. We cut our losses and left before breakfast the next morning, checking into the Jetover Hotel. The lady mentioned they have been in business for 10 years. After staying there, it became clear that their primary business strategy is apologizing. They are incredibly nice and apologetic, but after a decade of operation, there is no excuse for rotted blinds, broken plumbing, and filthy mattresses. Being polite does not substitute for basic sanitation and maintenance. Your money is better spent elsewhere.

Perfect isolated escape 💙Lamepa was a lovely, friendly host and a great cook! Her and her daughter secured my fale for a huge storm, which was all part of the fun. Incredible sandy beach with epic snorkeling. Piggies running about the place and everything kept clean and homely. Rough road from the turnoff, but easily do-able in a 2WD. Highly recommend this if it's an authentic, outdoor experience that you're looking for 💚 Brekky and dinner included 👍

Beautiful beach and great food, but the fales could be more comfortable. The location is stunning — crystal-clear water, coral everywhere, and lots of colorful fish right by the shore. The food was delicious and served buffet-style, which is awesome if you like trying a bit of everything. That said, the mattresses were basically non-existent… it felt like sleeping directly on the floor. Also, this was the place where we saw the most mosquitoes and bugs.

Amazing stay with lovely meals. It’s more remote than some others so it’s very peaceful with white sandy beach and incredible reefs close to the shore. The road in is a bit rough, but just take it slow and you’ll be fine (we went in 2wd and no issues, the northern path is a bit nicer).

The location is worth the drive! A beautiful, well kept beach. You pay 80 tala which includes dinner and breakfast. Food was delicious! The shower and toilet need locks but luckily there was a big group of family we stayed with so was ok but I imagine a solo traveller or couple might have an issue with this. Overall enjoyed our time here and would recommend!
