Best stays in Samoa: where to sleep across Upolu and Savai'i
Samoa's accommodation runs the full spectrum — from US$30-a-night beach fales where you sleep open-air to the lagoon, through family-run boutique hotels in Apia, all the way to five-star resorts with overwater bungalows. Picking the right one depends entirely on what you're after: barefoot authenticity, restaurant variety, or a swim-up bar.
Best stays in Savai'i, Samoa
Savai'i is the second-largest island in Polynesia and Samoa's quiet half — most travellers spend two or three nights here on a Samoa trip. Accommodation is mostly family-run: traditional beach fales along the coast, a handful of mid-range resorts, and a few eco-lodges set back from the road.
Best beaches in Samoa
Samoa's beaches are the kind that consistently top "world's best" lists and somehow stay uncrowded. Most are on customary land — you'll pay a small village fee (typically WST 5–20) at the gate, which goes back into maintaining the site. Below: the ones our travellers come back about.

After reading ONE star reviews, this place should’ve not been a resort to stop. Apparently locals aren’t allowed to consume alcohol on Sunday’s but this resort were offering alcohol beverages on a Sunday which apparently was NOT ALLOWED which should have been absolutely banned if KNOWN by the bartenders. Having underaged children supervise & assault an adult mother which was unacceptable & unprofessional was just one of our experiences. I would not recommend this resort to anyone especially someone that is from this village. Please DO NOT waste your time here. Both parents ended up resulting in a hefty fine from the village because of this resort!! Please save your money & go elsewhere.

I really liked the place and the common areas. The lodge is a bit pricey for what it offers. I unfortunately had a terrible experience with the owner, who started screaming at me one evening for a delayed payment, asking me to leave the accommodation immediately.

Nice place but management and food have lots of room for improvement. The only hotel (after a few weeks in the South Pacific) where we were charged additional (expensive) fees for use of fins, after the fact. Overall we felt like a bank machine…

This place is a true gem. Only hear about it because of a schoolmate who lived and worked there for a few years. First visited it when I was 24 then again at 29. The surf is really good but I do recommend an island board with volume and round tail or rounded pin. Paddle early then paddle 2 more times and take off at the bottom of the wave and pull into the barrel then hold on!!

We had THE BEST holiday at Aganoa Lodge with family & friends. We surfed all day every day and we got to surf at Aganoa and up the West Coast. It was so much fun getting to spend a week surfing with my dad and my mates and the awesome guides!! The waterfall and snorkelling were also very cool! Thanks everyone at Aganoa Lodge! I can't wait to get back there really soon.
