Wheels for the Pacific.
Compact hatchbacks for Apia, 4WDs for Savai'i, vans for the family. Direct from the rental company — no booking-engine markup.
Driving in Samoa — quick reminders:
- You'll need a temporary Samoan permit (WST 21, available at any Apia police station — most rental companies arrange this for you).
- Drive on the left (Samoa switched in 2009).
- Many roads outside Apia are unsealed — a 4WD or high-clearance vehicle is recommended for Savai'i and the east coast.
- Taking a car to Savai'i? The Mulifanua → Salelologa ferry is WST 80 for small cars (Cat A), WST 95 for mid-size 4WDs (Cat B), driver included; passengers pay WST 10 each. Full schedule + practical tips →
