Best stays in Samoa: where to sleep across Upolu and Savai'i
Samoa's accommodation runs the full spectrum — from US$30-a-night beach fales where you sleep open-air to the lagoon, through family-run boutique hotels in Apia, all the way to five-star resorts with overwater bungalows. Picking the right one depends entirely on what you're after: barefoot authenticity, restaurant variety, or a swim-up bar.
Best stays in Upolu, Samoa
Upolu is where most Samoa trips start. Faleolo International Airport, the capital Apia, and the bulk of the country's resort-tier accommodation all sit here. The south coast (Lalomanu, Lotofaga, Siumu) is the postcard side; the north has Apia and the working harbour.
Best resorts in Samoa
If you want pool, multiple restaurants, an actual spa and a structured kids' programme, you want a resort — and Samoa's resort tier is concentrated on Upolu's south coast plus a handful on Savai'i. Below are the published full-service properties across both islands.
Best beaches in Samoa
Samoa's beaches are the kind that consistently top "world's best" lists and somehow stay uncrowded. Most are on customary land — you'll pay a small village fee (typically WST 5–20) at the gate, which goes back into maintaining the site. Below: the ones our travellers come back about.

The staff were very helpful with my last minute booking. Very handy to Airport. Rooms are average, but for a quick sleep and shower before catching your flight, it will do.

Second time staying here with family at Transit Motel and would stay here again. Friendly, respectful and helpful staff. Rooms are alright, has basic amenities such as a bed, shower, fridge, storage space and also have aircon. Despite there being no tv, wifi and a strong smell in the rooms it was manageable. The restaurant was good but a long wait for food to be served. However, great portions and alright prices. Owner came to greet us as well which felt welcoming. I’d recommend to stay a night or two but also perfect location to stay the night if you are catching an early/late flight or waiting to aboard the ferry the next day. Airport is just 5 minutes down the road and easy to travel back and forth too.

Simple but clean hotel. Staff at reception very friendly. The service to and from airport is great. Recommended if you have a very early flight. You will be at the airport in 5 minutes.

It’s all in the name - it’s a transit hotel. If you keep that in mind and the fact that most flights in and out of Samoa are at night, you have the right mindset to have a night or part of a night here. The rooms are basic but clean and the air conditioning is fantastic. It is close to the airport and they can provide transport if you need it. It is a cost effective way to stay close to airport after you arrive or ready to fly home.

So very pleasantly surprised! Read reviews and didn’t have high hopes but they were completely exceeded! Staff were so friendly and helpful, bed was comfortable, room and bathroom were very clean and air condition worked. 100% would recommend to anyone needing a convenient place to stay near the airport or ferry.
