Best stays in Samoa: where to sleep across Upolu and Savai'i
Samoa's accommodation runs the full spectrum — from US$30-a-night beach fales where you sleep open-air to the lagoon, through family-run boutique hotels in Apia, all the way to five-star resorts with overwater bungalows. Picking the right one depends entirely on what you're after: barefoot authenticity, restaurant variety, or a swim-up bar.
Best stays in Upolu, Samoa
Upolu is where most Samoa trips start. Faleolo International Airport, the capital Apia, and the bulk of the country's resort-tier accommodation all sit here. The south coast (Lalomanu, Lotofaga, Siumu) is the postcard side; the north has Apia and the working harbour.
Best resorts in Samoa
If you want pool, multiple restaurants, an actual spa and a structured kids' programme, you want a resort — and Samoa's resort tier is concentrated on Upolu's south coast plus a handful on Savai'i. Below are the published full-service properties across both islands.
Best beaches in Samoa
Samoa's beaches are the kind that consistently top "world's best" lists and somehow stay uncrowded. Most are on customary land — you'll pay a small village fee (typically WST 5–20) at the gate, which goes back into maintaining the site. Below: the ones our travellers come back about.

We stayed for 3 days, from the time we checked in the manager was very unwelcoming like she couldn’t be bothered. When you would ask for something like toilet paper, towels etc..she would have a sour face like your asking for too much!! our room was riddled in ants the bathroom was dirty power sockets were hanging out of the wall, the kitchen had coffee all over the floors which showed the floors haven’t been mopped. We were meant to have a single and queen bed we got a queen base and a double mattress. The state of the towels and linen were disgusting. The tv wasn’t working and we’re told the maintenance person wasn’t available and they would get onto it. The list goes on I would advise never to stay here. Besides the terrible motel. The maid was kind and accommodating, we wish her all the best.

We booked here because the photos on the website looked very decent and the price was affordable but it all started from when we checked in to room 13. We booked for 2 double size bed as the picture on the website but it ended up being 1 double bed and 2 single bed next to each other. The room was dated and old. The door to get in couldn't even close properly and it felt like it was going to break and also the tv wasn't even working. I went and saw the staff member that was on about it and she just told me I had to lift the door up to close it and also that the antenna for all the tv wasn't working. The staff member wasnt very apologetic at all as it was something normal that happens. The shower was dirty and what made it even worse at night time there were two big cockroaches in the bathroom. We were going to extend to book another night but with all those things we experienced here in that one night sealed the deal for us. If we were able to find another place to stay that night we would have left but we ended up booking another accommodation for the next day so we. checked out the next morning. Breakfast was very basic. I definitely won't recommend this place its definitely not worth the price. The only positive thing was the pool.

Location was good, close to town centre and taxis super cheap if it's too hot to walk. The hotel staff- Carol on reception (maybe manager?) is the reason for my low review. She just looked like she couldn't be bothered the whole 4 days we were there. Every question was "on the website"- um, what's wrong with talking? The other staff were lovely though! Night security especially. Room- never cleaned when we were there. Floor was very dirty. Beds average. Bathroom cleanliness awful. Smelt, dangerous looking mould especially under the sink (no doors to shut it away) and I wore jandals in the shower because it was really bad. Kitchen have good stuff to use, under the sink and some cupboards again really bad mould. Air conditioning was great! Size of room was pretty good, space around the table for us to play cards and eat etc We had a room right next to the pool which was great and had a good sized covered porch area to hang towels etc after swimming. Breakfast included, it was very average. Pool was really nice and surrounded by really pretty tropical plants. Definitely wouldn't stay again because it was dirty on arrival, filthy after 4 days and the mould. And honestly because Carol wasn't nice at all. Hubby heard her yelling at staff too. We stayed the full time because accommodation places were full, other than the Sheraton where we had the original booking but didn't want it because of their renovations affecting some areas of the hotel and didn't fancy being woken up very early by builders lol We just decided to make the most of it, bring positive about the pool and room size.

Room 13. Pros: Nice workers. The pool and its surroundings are nice. Cons: The towels gets fluffs coming out. The bathroom drain doesn’t drain quickly. The floor seems like it wasn’t mopped. The bed sheets and pillows feels dusty. There was no hand and face towels. The breakfast is very basic.

We stayed for two weeks out of our 8 week vacation in Samoa and it was the absolute highlight. Great customer service, very attentive to all our needs and requests. The rooms were lovely and spacious as we came with 6 suitcases and baby gear, fit everything inside. Breakfast was delicious every morning. We would 100% recommend and would stay again. Thanks Carol and team.
