Best stays in Samoa: where to sleep across Upolu and Savai'i
Samoa's accommodation runs the full spectrum — from US$30-a-night beach fales where you sleep open-air to the lagoon, through family-run boutique hotels in Apia, all the way to five-star resorts with overwater bungalows. Picking the right one depends entirely on what you're after: barefoot authenticity, restaurant variety, or a swim-up bar.
Best stays in Upolu, Samoa
Upolu is where most Samoa trips start. Faleolo International Airport, the capital Apia, and the bulk of the country's resort-tier accommodation all sit here. The south coast (Lalomanu, Lotofaga, Siumu) is the postcard side; the north has Apia and the working harbour.
Best resorts in Samoa
If you want pool, multiple restaurants, an actual spa and a structured kids' programme, you want a resort — and Samoa's resort tier is concentrated on Upolu's south coast plus a handful on Savai'i. Below are the published full-service properties across both islands.
Best beaches in Samoa
Samoa's beaches are the kind that consistently top "world's best" lists and somehow stay uncrowded. Most are on customary land — you'll pay a small village fee (typically WST 5–20) at the gate, which goes back into maintaining the site. Below: the ones our travellers come back about.

My husband and I stayed here for 6 nights. The receptionist was very helpful throughout our entire stay. All the staff were very friendly. The pool is just the right size and deep enough to get a good swim. Most of the guests went out during the day, so it was like we had our own private pool. Great location as well, about a 20-minute walk to the clock tower in town. There's a taxi service a few doors down, which made it so convenient. The hotel room wasn't the fanciest, pretty old and run down, but it had air conditioning, which for me was a must, so I can't complain. We all really enjoyed our stay.

I recently stayed at the Travellers Point Hotel in Samoa and was utterly disappointed with my experience. From the moment I checked in, the customer service was lacking in every aspect. The staff seemed disinterested and unresponsive to my needs, making me feel unwelcome and undervalued as a guest. To make matters worse, upon entering my room, I was greeted with dirty sheets, which is simply unacceptable for any accommodation claiming to provide a comfortable stay. It was evident that the housekeeping standards were subpar, leaving me questioning the hotel's commitment to cleanliness and hygiene. Furthermore, the noise level at the hotel was unbearable. Loud music blared late into the night, disrupting any chance of relaxation or a good night's sleep. The lack of consideration for the peace and comfort of their guests only added to the overall disappointment. Despite the hotel's promising name, my experience at the Travellers Point Hotel Samoa was far from enjoyable. The combination of terrible customer service, unclean bedding, and constant noise left me regretting my decision to stay at this establishment. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a pleasant and peaceful stay in Samoa.

The staff were amazing, the food was great and had a beautiful relaxing atmosphere. We were lucky enough to have a beer and a good chat with some local people and even the owner gets involved for a yarn (we taught him a rugby drinking game hehe) This place deserves a higher rating. Highly recommend and will definitely stay again!

Hospitality plus - great prices with high quality-so disappointing we didn't see this place when searching. Has sky Pacific for all sports fanatics :-) Just wanted to add we paid similar per night not far from here and it was awful - rooms not cleaned properly, pool not clean and the resort we stayed at initially was 3 times the cost but we would stay here at travellers point over the resort next time we visit Samoa and 4 of us thought that.

My parents stayed at TP-Samoa for 5 nights and loved it. However, they came to the hotel late one night to find themselves locked out with no tenant to let them in. It was a real inconvenience for my parents who are both diabetic and had their medicines in the room. They went to another hotel in town and the clerk was nice enough to let my parents sleep in the lobby until TravellersPoint opened their doors back up. The staff tried their best to make it right and I'm thankful for that.
