Lefaga Siblings Shine in Short Story Competition
Two talented siblings from Lefaga have won top prizes in the Samoa Observer's annual short story competition, making their family and village proud.

“Overwhelmed with gratitude and emotion, pastor and teacher couple Reverend Sekoa Levasa and Teevale Faatonu Levasa from Matautu Lefaga are thankful to God after their children won prizes in the Samoa Observer short story writing competition.”
It's wonderful to hear about the success of two young writers from Lefaga, Sekoa Junior Sekoa Levasa and Sulu Jasmine Sekoa Levasa, who have scooped first prizes in the Samoa Observer's short story competition. These siblings, children of Reverend Sekoa Levasa and Teevale Faatonu Levasa, have brought great joy to their family and community.
Sekoa Junior won first prize for Gagana Samoa writing in Year 12, dedicating his work to his grandfather. His sister, Sulu Jasmine, took first prize for English writing in Year 11, honouring her nana and great-grandmother. Their mother, a teacher at Savaia Primary School, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity the competition provided, allowing children to showcase their talents.
Both parents highlighted the importance of such initiatives, noting that they help fulfil children's hopes and reward their hard work. It's truly inspiring to see young people from Samoa excelling in creative writing and celebrating their heritage through language. Their achievements remind us of the vibrant spirit and talent present in Samoan communities, and how opportunities like this can nurture the next generation of storytellers. We extend our warmest congratulations to Sekoa Junior and Sulu Jasmine!
