Fiji's Nadi International Airport Embraces Solar Power for a Greener Future

We're always keen to see our Pacific neighbours making strides in sustainable tourism and infrastructure. So it's great news that construction has begun on Fiji's largest solar farm at the main gateway to the country, Nadi International Airport.
This 3.25-megawatt project aims to power airport operations entirely with renewable energy. Fiji's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Viliame Gavoka, highlighted that this initiative will reduce reliance on traditional energy sources, lower operating costs, and shrink the airport's carbon footprint. It’s a clear sign of Fiji’s commitment to renewable energy and sustainable development.
The airport, located near the town of Nadi, has already been recognised for its green efforts, including receiving a Platinum Award in the 2026 Green Airports Recognition programme and being named the Best Airport in the South Pacific earlier this year. This new solar farm further solidifies its position as a leader in environmentally conscious travel within the region. We believe such initiatives are vital for the long-term health and appeal of our beautiful Pacific islands, setting a fantastic example for others to follow.
